Dear everyone,

We wish you a quiet day with time to knit, to nap, to figure out how to make a decent tassel.

(We’re still working on that.)

We have some beautiful music for your soundtrack today—just scroll down to have a look.

It is a tremendous joy to spend time with you here at MDK. Here’s to plenty more of that in the year to come!

Love,

Ann and Kay

Tassel making is very easy. Take some rectangular object like a box or if you want a tiny tassel, a fork. This tassel form should be much larger than the desired tassel, so you can trim to your heart’s content. Wrap the yarn around the tassel and up through one end designated as the top, leave a long tail. Pull wrapped yarn off form. Wrap the tail around the top and then around the outside, to make a “face” on the tassel “baby.” Tie a knot around the baby. Work the tail up. Cut the long loop below the face; these strands will become the fringed ends. Trim and trim and trim some more.

I learned tassel making as a very small girl; I don’t remember if my mother taught me or I learned in Brownies. Once upon a time tassel and pompom crafts were taught to children; this was back in the dark ages when you had to cut your own pompom maker out of cardboard. If a six year can make a nice tassel, so can you.

Go forth and fringe and embellish.

    • I remember doing this! As for yarn dollies! Thank you and Merry Christmas all!

  • May all of MDK have a wonderful Holiday and thank you for your hard work to make this possible

  • Happy holidays MDK fam! <3

  • Happy Holidays to all! I’m so grateful that our paths crossed.

  • Merry Christmas and Seasons Greetings to all at MDK. I just used my new ball winder and swift to wind up a few skeins of Periwinkle Sheep merino DK purchased from MDK a few weeks ago (and gifted to myself). Getting ready for my first project of 2020! Have a lovely quiet rest of your day!

  • Merry Christmas hope your day was a merry one and that you all were blessed with family round your table. Tomorrow will be a much quieter day here as we enjoy the peace and relative quiet of Boxing Day, so my plan is to knit one of the super projects from one of the field guides. Problem is which project to pick.

    Merry Christmas to everyone
