Dear Kay,

Here’s the perfect conversation to listen to while knitting up your Freia Yarn Bombs and Freia Minikins.

It’s the founder of Freia, Tina Whitmore, who really is one of our favorite people in the yarn world. Another of our favorite knitting folks, Kristy Glass, tracked her down at her studio in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts.

Tina talks about how she creates her signature gradients, totally fascinating. And how she grew her business—and moved from California to Massachusetts a couple of years ago.

I take a lot of inspiration from Tina, who began in 2003 with a simple idea, then kept exploring and developing and thinking and dreaming. Really great.

Love,

Ann

  • I love Kristy’s sweater. Where can I find the pattern?

  • I had no idea that Freia is located one town over from my in-laws! What fun.

  • I didn’t know the founder of Freia is near my neck of the (Central MA) woods! I hope if Tina Whitmore ever decides to investigate made-in-Massachusetts cashmere as an element in her yarns, she will get in touch 🙂

  • Thank you for this! I’m listening while knitting on the back screened porch while the power is out from the storms.

  • I was introduced to Freia yarn because my son sent me 2 cakes “named after” their baby daughter, Freya. I turned that around into an adorable little dress. Beautiful yarn, great to knit with.
