Fun
Gold and Rust
Dear Ann,
Our sewing circle has been all atwitter, because our beloved Gael Towey’s latest short film was slated to premier at the Port Townsend Film Festival’s Women and Film event this month.
Whomp whomp. You can see where this is going. The festival had to be cancelled this year, but there is a silver lining for all of us who weren’t going to get to Washington: Gael has released the film on her site, Portraits in Creativity.
You can watch it here.
What I love most about Gold and Rust, and the whole Portraits in Creativity series, is its documentation of sustained creative life. Here are women, pursuing their callings, keeping at it through the years, working through the challenges, and scrambling over, under, and around the obstacles. Through Gael’s keen observation, we see how worthy and beautiful their paths are.
Sometimes a documentary documents something unintentionally. I can’t help feeling wistful at seeing artists Nancy Lorenz and Pamela Talese wandering New York streets that are so quiet right now.
If you’re not familiar with Gael’s Portraits in Creativity, you’re all set up for some good Knit to This content today. It’s a beautiful body of work. I hope you see yourself as Gael would see you, and feel inspired to keep making things.
Love,
Kay
Thank you for this. And for showing up every day to keep our light on. Xoxox
I look forward to watching this. And I was hit by a pang for Gael who doesn’t get to go Port Townsend. I haven’t been there since a family vacation when we only had one kid. (He’s thirty now.) Good memories and a little longing, for the past, and for now, because of all we are waiting to do.
Thank you Kay for posting my short film and for such a lovely review. There are pangs galore these days but I am so happy to be able to share Nancy and Pamela’s work and observations about creativity with everyone at MDK. Stay safe
So very special….thank you so much for sharing!
This sounds so good I sort of feel that I should save it for an emergency.
