  • Team ground coffee because I can’t stand the noise a grinder makes.

    • I totally get that Chris! I had to carefully research grinders to get a less obnoxiously loud one.

      • What kind of a grinder do you have? Thanks for doing the research!!

  • Hmm…. I am enjoying my morning coffee. For me… whole bean! I find freshly ground beans are the biggest factor in a good pot of coffee!!!

    • Freshly ground and my little French Press.

      • What’s your favorite French press?

    • Whole bean is definitely fresher, and I prefer it. I also use ground coffee when I am in a hurry and don’t have time to grind the beans.

    • Ground please.

    • Whole beans, fresh ground, good well water through a slow filter

      • Whole bean always wins at my house

    • Whole bean!

      • Team Whole Bean from our local roaster. Our favorite blend-Tivoli Bakery

        • Sorry, I’m not a coffee drinker so I’m neither team whole bean nor ground.

        • Whole bean. But Decaff only please!

  • I used to be whole bean black but now I’m team ground with half and half. All decaf. No sugar.

    • Ground, because I like to cold brew at night for a smooth mason jar of yummy in the morning!

  • whole bean makes better coffee, but i mostly use ground coffee for convenience

    • Ground, 1/2 cafe with Tippy Cow vanilla, yum!

      • Whole beans!! The fragrance when grinding is delish

    • Whole bean in the gaggia brera.

      • Oh definitely whole beans. (But ground before using of course!)

  • Um, really can’t answer that as apparently I am the only adult left in the world who doesn’t drink coffee!

    • I only drink coffee occasionally; don’t brew it myself. Morning brew at my house is black tea.

    • I don’t drink coffee either. I love the smell of fresh coffee beans, but it doesn’t agree with me when I drink the coffee. Same with most of my family. We are all tea drinkers.

    • Ditto. Can’t stand coffee or anything coffee flavored. Team Dr Pepper for the morning jolt and mostly iced tea thereafter.

    • You are not alone. I am a team tea every morning.

    • Whole bean always!

    • No, you are not alone. I don’t drink coffee or tea, ever. Never have. We actually exist in the wild as fully functioning people.

  • I don’t drink coffee!!!! Horrors, I know. I just never have. May I still play?

    • Grinder would wake up my peeps. I enjoy a quiet knit with my morning coffee. Therefore… ground !

    • Two cups ground. First cup black, second cup with hazelnut creamer.

    • Whole bean, please

  • Team whole beans because the coffee tastes better freshly ground.

  • Whole bean, Pour over, one cup at a time.

    • Whole beans, unless I am making Cafe du Monde.

      • Ground!

  • Team ground

  • Team ground. Every once in awhile I’ll buy a pound of good beans and pull out the grinder. While I enjoy a good cup of coffee, it’s just too much effort!

    • I’m with you. The grinder is for special coffee, like the good beans we find on vacation. Then it’s back to the humdrum ground, usually half-caf.

  • Team ground. But this morning I wanted tea—to warm up—in Florida!!

  • Whole bean

  • Ground.

  • Only tea for me.

  • Ground coffee on a daily basis but whole bean as my treat!

  • Oh, Team Whole Bean for sure! We grind enough locally roasted beans for about two days worth of coffee (we have some purists in our family who grind only enough for what they are going to drink then and there) and it’s strictly Pour-Over.

  • Whole bean dark roast, good and hot, no diluting it!

  • Whole bean, Americano, dark roast, black. My favorite part of the day.

  • Nespresso!

    • Ditto!

  • In a perfect world, I would have the time to grind beans. But it is Chock Full of Nuts instead. And if I buy milk only for myself, it goes bad. So I use powdered milk and stevia packets. It is much better than it sounds.

  • Team ground. I prefer whole bean but am usually needing that first cup expeditiously. And we blend a bit of caf with mostly decaf these days.

  • I’m up before everyone else. Quiet ground.

  • Team ground

  • I am a tea drinker. I love the coffee smell, never the taste.

    • I agree wholeheartedly! I have always described coffee as the most deceptive drink there is because the smell lures me in, but the taste makes me shudder!

  • Whole bean!

  • I hate to admit it but I don’t drink coffee. Can I still join in???

    • I am with Mary! But my husband does! Can I enter too? He grinds his own beans.

  • Team ground coffee…. Love the whole bean but the grinding is just too inconvenient, although I am thinking of replacing my coffee maker to one that grinds as you go!

  • I prefer Team ground coffee and sometimes keurig. I love my morning coffee.

  • Ground coffee because it is too much trouble to grind the beans. I’m just plain lazy.

  • Team tea!

  • Ground. I want my caffeine ready to go in the am or else I’ll be chewing the grinds.

  • Team black tea here

  • Team Whole Bean, half and half!

  • Ground because I don’t want to wait any longer for my coffee than I have to!

  • Neither I don’t drink coffee but my daughter and son are team whole bean.

  • Whole bean! It’s the grinding that one can meditatively start your day for an amazing smelling coffee! ☕

  • Team whole bean. Love the smell of freshly ground coffee. I even have a travel burr grinder when we go Jeep camping with the I-Camper.

  • I’m one of those “crazy people” who doesn’t drink coffee, tea is my beverage of choice my favorite is loose leaves.

  • Team whole bean, pour over using a scale and electric kettle with built in thermometer. Need to start the day off right. Only one cup of coffee.

  • Lazy: ground

  • Team ground coffee

    • Team grind these days because it’s just easier…I’ve tried several home grinders and they are loud and messy. Life’s too short to deal with cleaning up the static-y coffee bits after running the grinder.

  • Whole bean, dark roast, Americano, black. My favorite time of the day. Why does the first cup taste the best?

  • Must be team ground as I don’t own a grinder and have never bought a bean!

  • Tea for me.

  • Ground coffee — the faster I get it in me the better!

  • Totally team ground. I prep my coffee the night before so all I have to do is press go when I stumble down the stairs seeking that glorious brew! I may be a morning person – but I still seek a cup (okay 1/2 a pot) of strong black coffee most mornings.

  • Nespresso original pods, cafe de Cuba if they ever have it in stock, makes piping hot cup; Or a french press ground for me (by my daughter in law) lovely Vietnamese bean.

  • Team ground coffee all the way (after a few cups of tea)

  • Ground coffee. I am rarely the first one up so I accept with gratitude the coffee that I poor into my cup!

    • Team ground.
Grinding in the morning is akin to being on the tarmac when a jet takes off.

  • I was Team Whole Bean until the grinder wore out so now I’m Team Ground Coffee. Basically, I’m Team Coffee all the way in either form!

  • Ground. I seem to be using a Keurig right now. I’m Unable to choose between coffee makers. The whole it’s certified to make a good cup of coffee as the water sits, then swooshes over the whole surface of the grinds. I’m explaining badly, but I’m still on my first cup.

  • Team Ground Coffee – my husband makes coffee early in the morning and knows a noisy grinder will wake me up…so sweet and thoughtful!

  • Team Whole Bean

  • Group ground! I don’t have the patience to wait for a coffee grinder in the morning

  • Whole bean for pour over, Bustelo for the Moka pot and also cold brew!

  • Team ground. I used to have a grinder, but it made me crazy with the static on the plastic collection bin. Gave it up.

  • Ground coffee. While I love the flavor you get with fresh ground beans, that grinding noise is too jarring first thing in the morning. And besides, my taste is not that discerning!

  • I grind beans wearing ear plugs!

  • G’morning! I grind mine down at the corner store because the noise is too loud to hear before my pot in the morning! Lol

  • Team ground,

  • Whole bean.

  • Used to be Team Whole Bean but our grind and brew wouldn’t faint in the “coffee space” in our new kitchen, plus it was wearing out. I am a new recruit to Team Ground.

  • I’m team whole bean. The grounds are so much fresher!

  • Whole bean. I grind it the night before and set up the coffeemaker so my coffee is ready when I get up. I use a burr grinder and weigh it. I’ve been experimenting with pour over when I have time, but I have a farm and a job so that’s not weekday mornings. I’d seriously looooove four skeins of Atlas to play with. I just can’t spend any more money on yarn right now. I spent too much on replacement chickens.

  • Newman’s Own K-cups, here. I guess that would make me Team Ground?

  • I am not a coffee drinker. My husband is and does whole bean. Does that count for an entry?

  • Sorry, but in the morning I just WANT my coffee—so I’m definitely Team Ground Coffee.

  • Team whole bean!

  • Neither … I’m on team black tea.

  • Most days = ground
    Special occasions = whole beans

  • I’m team neither because I never learned to like the taste of coffee. I do love to smell it brewing, though!

  • Team coffee.

  • Whole bean, but I pre-grind and do enough for the week. What does that make me? More importantly, how early do some of you rise and shine?!?!? 42 comments and 7 a.m. EST. We all REALLY want that yarn bundle! ☺️

    • I wake up when the dog starts barking because something has set the guinea hens off. Usually it’s light. Stupid guineas will scream at anything, including deer. They are the most annoying alarm clock. I am down to six, and I’m not hatching any more.

      • Ha, Jennifer! I did the guinea thing here too. They beat peacocks in their cacophony! Now I have a small flock of silkies, orps, and marans….no roos!!!!

  • Whole bean whenever I can, but now it’s just pods (eek) because I’m always running out the door with a cup!

  • Whole bean all the way! The aroma of the coffee as it’s being ground is a lusccious teaser for the rich, fresh taste to come.

  • I prefer whole bean, freshly ground. The way life works, it’s generally k cups.

  • Team Keurig

  • Definitely whole bean a great Italian roast blend from unique coffee roasters. It’s awesome! Wouldn’t change a bean… it’s perfect!

  • Ground during the week and whole bean on the weekends

  • Ground coffee for me. One less thing to do in the morning.

  • Whole bean!

  • Ground coffee because I need a cup right away and don’t want to wait to grind the beans!

  • Neither, I’m team herbal tea.

  • Whole bean—when I have the time!

  • Coffee is like wine to me…I can tell when I like it and when I don’t, but I am not discerning at all about what is “good”. I buy ground because it’s easier, except when I’m not paying attention and realize I have bought the whole bean. When I get home it’s an exercise in creativity to figure out how to turn it into usable coffee: rolling pin, Vitamix, call my friend and beg her to let me “borrow” her grinder since she has some fancy pod machine. In the end it doesn’t matter as long as it has a blob of Hershey’s Simply 5 and a shot of milk stirred in.

  • Whole bean, though I’d drink any coffee offered to me!

  • Team tea!

  • Ground. I need my coffee quick!

  • We actually do a little of both. We like the taste of freshly ground whole bean coffee but we like the smoothness of adding a bit of French vanilla, which is very hard to find in whole bean.

  • Whole bean. I love the aroma.

  • Whole bean, here.
    Happy Knitting !!

  • Team ground, since the tea in my tea bags is always ground!

  • Team Ground – whole bean is better, but I don’t have the patience or brainpower to grind coffee before I’ve had my coffee

  • Whole bean, absolutely!

  • Either way, depending on mood, what’s in the store and time available in the morning. Halfnhalf, no sugar, all the caffeine. Smooth and strong.

  • Ground, because it’s easier…..

  • I wish I was Team Whole Bean, but when it comes down to it, I just want my coffee the easiest way possible. So I am team Ground.

  • Whole bean! I also love my Nespresso machine!

  • Team whole bean. Always best in my MDK ballband coffee mug.

  • Ground. Too lazy to grind it myself and the noise. Oh the noise!

  • My coffee is a big fat darkest roasted espresso possible latte. No sugar and 1% foamed milk.

  • Definitely whole bean. Whether it’s true or not, I too believe that often the beans are much fresher and the coffee tastes better.

  • I am team ground coffee, in the pod! With one Sweet and Low, please.

  • Ground. Just gave my grinder away since I didn’t use it very often. 🙁

  • Ground coffee so there’s more time for knitting

  • Gotta be whole bean.

  • Team ground.

  • Oh! Whole bean usually unless I’m over tired and need the caffeine more quickly!

  • Not a big coffee drinker, as my preference is tea, but when I do, it’s whole bean by far!

  • I’m afraid coffee disagrees with me these days so it’s tea for me.

  • Team ground coffee – I hate the sound of the grinder almost as much as the sound of an ironing board opening. (I am also team wrinkled clothes)

  • Ground coffee. Too impatient to wait!

  • Whole bean!

  • Team ground coffee ( but I pick it up freshly ground from my local coffee store)

  • ?? This is not a valid coupon code ATLAS try again. Just me?

    • Need more coffeeeee…. MDK patterns only….

  • I am team tea!

  • Team whole bean!

  • Team Hot and Strong.

  • Team tea! (=

  • Whole bean! I’ve been grinding my own for 30 years!

  • Team Earl Grey! Twinings preferred. We don’t drink coffee in my house. (My husband can’t stand the smell or taste. He prefers Tetleys or PG Tips like the fine English bloke he is.)

  • Team Ground. Only for the convenience. Love the smell and taste of whole bean but too lazy to grind a pots worth every morning! That reminds me-I have been meaning to try your Atlas blend

  • The sophisticate buried deep inside me knows the whole bean is boss, but the caffeine fiend demands the instant gratification of ground.

  • Whole Bean – Starbucks – Veranda

  • Ground.. because life is too short. But I truly appreciate whole bean.. Actually, just want a great tasting cup of something!

  • Beans, beans, and only beans. With vanilla, the world’s two best fragrances.

  • Tullys Hawaiian pods for me. Aloha

  • Gotta be whole bean!

  • Team Ground Coffee, it is hard enough making that pot of coffee in the morning without having to first grind beans with your eyes half closed

  • I love to make fresh ground coffee, but I’m now a one cupper and it’s only me so I use the Kureg.

  • Absolutely whole bean!

  • Neither. I’m a tea drinker. Green tea, black tea, tea with milk and sugar, tea with honey. Peppermint tea, ginger tea, lemongrass tea.

  • Whole bean locally roasted.

  • Team Ground!

  • Ground Only because I live in an RV and space is a precious commodity. So a grinder would take up space needed for other things.

  • Whole bean! I don’t want to use the communal grinder at the store and the coffee seems to taste better. Yes, it’s messy and noisy. But it makes my kitchen smell of delicious coffee so what’s better than that?

  • Whole bean if I can get it. Otherwise if it’s coffee, I’ll drink it!

  • I’m team whole bean, as I’m lucky enough to have a husband who likes to make lattes for our breakfast ❣️

  • I prefer whole bean, but out of convenience, I tend to drink pre-ground. My supermarket doesn’t sell whole bean coffee any more.

  • I drink Rasa, a coffee substitute. But back in my coffee days it was definitely whole bean! When I met my husband he would often make instant coffee using hot tap water. I got him converted to real coffee at least….

  • Whole bean freshly ground just tastes best to me. Have made pour over for 30 years, but we just bought a coffee maker that actually makes good coffee. My husband recently asked if it was bad that he wanted to go to bed just so he could get up and have coffee and cake. Obviously a big time of our day!

  • Whole bean!

  • Love Nespresso, so Team Ground here.

  • Team tea!

  • Team Ground Bean — I want my coffee asap in the morning.

  • My daughter gave me a good grinder for Christmas and I’m really enjoying being with the whole bean crew now after years of buying pre-ground.

  • Definitely whole bean!

  • Whole bean!

  • Whole bean ground at Trader Joe’s for cold brew.

  • Whole bean forever!

  • Definitely team whole bean! I love my french press and I need a course grind to make the best cup.

  • Ground coffee is convenient and quieter, but I do occasionally enjoy the diverse variety of whole beans available.

  • So…instant isn’t a choice? I like mine sweet and flavored to mask the coffee flavor. I found an instant ICE coffee I enjoy. Usually carry some with me to add to a bottle of water whenever the mood strikes!

  • I am Team Tea. Coffee upsets my tummy.

  • I love to have fresh ground however in the morning I am too tired to get out the grinder. So ground coffee is my go to.

  • Team Ground Coffee!

  • Ground. I need coffee to grind coffee so I must start with ground in the morning.

  • Team whole bean

  • Ground!

  • Team Ground, decaf.

  • I prefer whole bean, but it means my husband WILL NOT make coffee. So usually we have both and switch randomly between them.

  • Odd woman out——I am team tea

  • Ground, used to be whole bean. Prefer Starbucks espresso roast but also like Italian roast and French roast. When Starbucks got too expensive, discovered Cameron French roast – delicious! Keep a jar of Medaglia d’Oro for baking and also for emergencies (running out of coffee beans!).

  • Whole bean mostly with occasional ground when in a hurry.

  • Whole bean for a whole new day ☀️

  • Ground, .pour over, two cups please

  • Neither. I don’t even like the smell of coffee, let alone it’s taste! Team tea for me!

  • Team Ground Coffee these days, though I do miss the freshness of newly ground beans.

  • Since becoming a nurse in my 50’s (and working night shift), I’m “Team Recyclable K-cup”. I have gone from roasting my own beans (back when I was in Publishing), to plopping a pod in a machine for instant caffeine gratification. Judge me, I don’t even care! On my days off, I treat myself to the good stuff at a local roasters, but on work days, I need it fast and hot:)

  • Whole bean

  • Team…..tea!

  • Whole bean.

  • Team Ground, for sure. And to make it even more convenient, our local coffeehouse Owner delivers it right to our door,

  • Ground French Hazelnut for me!

  • Whole bean!

  • I am usually in a hurry, so I am an instant coffee person at home. If I am out and stop for coffee, it is definitely fresh ground.

  • Team Whole Bean but will happily accept ground!

  • Team ground….because honestly it’s a quick pod thing in the am.

  • I’ve been whole bean for many years.

  • If it’s too early in the morning for the grinding sound, we use ground.

  • Sorry, I haven’t a clue. I don’t drink coffee. I do drink tea!

  • I prefer whole bean. But my husband has been nice enough to make the coffee every morning for 34 years (next week), and he finds ground easier. So ground it is!

  • Team whole bean, ground minutes before adding water. French press.

  • Team ground (purchased in small bags for freshness). Hub sleeps late and grinder noise wakes the dragon. Besides, isn’t it nice to listen to the birds in the morning?

  • Team Whole Bean!

  • both! whole bean, ground…as long as it’s in the cup…

  • Ground coffer!

  • Team Ground Coffee – things need to be as simple as possible in the mornings

  • TGC — less time spent in kitchen = more time knitting

  • ground

  • Used to be the whole bean….now the ground…..and occasionally, the instant….. but never decaf

  • Team ground coffee. My husband said I left too much of a mess on the counter when I ground them myself. I still love that morning cup. (FYI I live alone with my poodle now!)

  • Team Tea here

  • Team hot chocolate. Not everyone drinks coffee!

    • Whole bean always!

  • Tea drinker here, but I LOVE the smell of coffee… so if I drank it I’d go with whole beans so I could do the quick grind and get that extra aroma!

  • Fresh Ground!!! All the way. Just enjoyed my first noisy sip of the day in fact.

  • Team ground coffee

  • Ground. Beans are too noisy first thing in the morning.

  • No coffee- only tea

  • Team ground!

  • Whatever Dunkin’ starts with. ☕️

  • Ground for convenience. But we have both. Maybe that’s similar to my stash of yarn and a stash of fiber to spin, too.

  • Team ground as I sip cup number 2 of many for the day.

  • Team tea….does that count?

  • Ground. Black.

  • Ground is my only option, I have a Corgi dog that barks at literally everything, the grinder going would wake him and then the entire neighborhood.

  • I am team ground. I can’t stand the sound of the grinder so early in the am. I use an AeroPress and make a large cup. One more thing. I like my coffee strong but not bitter.

  • Whole bean, absolutely!

  • Back when I drank coffee, it was whole bean, definitely.

  • I don’t drink coffee, never acquired a taste for it. So despite my weirdness, do I still qualify as a dyed-in-the wool knitter?

  • Whole bean !!!

  • Team whole bean! Grinding it the night before makes for a more peaceful morning.

  • I prefer whole bean, but use ground, as I am incapable of grinding coffee before I consume coffee. Also, I have not found my current favorite roast in the whole bean.

  • do not drink coffee

  • Definitely Team Whole Bean, but then my husband does the grinding and also makes the lattés, so all I have to do is knit and wait for that lovely warm cuppa to arrive!

  • Team recreational coffee—only a very occasional treat for me!!!

    • Ground out of pure laziness. Pitiful, I know because I would enjoy drinking whole bean coffee more…even just the aroma of grinding the beans would be heavenly! Aromatherapy….Hmmm, gonna rethink that decision!

  • I am team ground coffee. I bought a small grinder a couple years ago, but find it too much effort for not much difference in taste.

  • Whole bean – burr grinder!

  • Whole bean. Just got a grinder this past Christmas.

  • Team ground coffee because it’s a sin to wait on your first cup in the morning!

  • I’m a switch on this. I get lazy and buy ground then miss it and commit to whole bean. Rinse and repeat.

  • Whole bean if I make the time to grind it. Otherwise, ground is fine. We always do whole bean for special occasions.

  • Ground as found in Nespresso pods

  • Team ground coffee! For the convenience of it!

  • Whole bean!

  • Not a purist. I mostly buy it pre-ground.

  • I enjoy whole bean coffee, ground fine with half and half.

  • Team Whole Bean

  • Team ground…Kona all the way!

  • Cafe Bustelo pods, sometimes iced.

  • Whole beans for me in my espresso machine!

  • Minority tea drinker here- I brew a fresh pot of loose tea leaves in the morning and end the day with a cup of herbal.

  • Team ground and yes the grinder is too harsh in the morning. But I enjoy a cup of tea most mornings.

  • Tea! First cup with a teabag for caffeine and loose leaf for the rest.

  • Whole bean when I’m home but I don’t look askance at ground if that is all there is!

  • Team ground because I’m so lazy and need to coffee asap. Ok, true confessions: sometimes I even make it the night before so all I have to do is nuke it. I know there are those ‘computer coffee makers’ but they are too much but maybe I’ll have to figure that some day. Sigh.

  • While bean or Nespresso double shot

  • Love whole bean, but as the only coffee drinker in the house, I usually opt for ground.

  • pre ground coffee as the coffee grinder would wake my husband thus shortening my quiet morning routine.

  • Whole bean

  • Since I was a nascent coffee drinker: wholeheartedly whole bean. Marriage vows included hub’s conversion & instructions for the grinder.

  • Whole bean, of course, ordered by mail from Anderson’s in Austin, Texas, and ground fresh every morning. Love the sound of a coffee grinder in the morning!

    • Austinite here. My DD buys Anderson’s beans regularly and I love it. But usually buy Equal Exchange from our nearby HEB.

  • whole bean, it is fresher.

  • Formerly a Whole Bean Purist……..these days? I Go Ground, using the extra time to fuss with my espresso machine with its milk steamer. So good, I usually need only one cup.

  • Too much trouble to grind at home. I like part decaf, part regular and part hazelnut at home. That’s fussy enough.

  • Neither! I am team Teal Latte – London Fog or Chai are my go to’s! Love Jen’s patterns and enjoy following her on Instagram!

  • Team Tea!!

  • I found I use up coffee so fast that I have it ground at the shop. Listening to my coffee maker right now.

  • Whole bean with my 14 year old Jura.

  • Tried Team Bean,, but ended up going back toTeam Ground. Grinding beans is soooo loud!

  • Usually Team Tea, but when I play the game of coffee, it’s Team Ground.

  • Team tea not coffee

  • oh my, the faster the caffeine gets into my system the better. Therefore; TEAM GROUND COFFEE. It’s quicker!

  • I split the difference. I buy whole bean and grind a few days supply at a time of both caf and decaf.

  • Black tea with milk for me in the morning. Cold brew decaf from whole beans for midday.

  • As with mean things in life, I was whole bean for years with a coffeemaker that had a built-in grinder. But lately I have become a cold brew lover and Costco’s Kirkland brand of medium roast Columbian is so easy to use for the 5oz of coffee needed for each batch. So, I’m Team Ground these days.

  • Team caffeine in any form, please.

  • ground coffee, for the ease of process. Maxwell House, Nashville original

  • Whole bean! Freshly ground, puur-over, with a splash of half and half. Unless it’s iced coffee….. then it gets sweetener.

  • Ground, but I get mine delivered and they grind it right before packing and shipping. I love grinding my own coffee, but I have a full-time job, a part time job, and am going to school full time. I just do not have that kind of time.

  • I’m team loose breakfast tea in a pot. 🙂

  • I’m combo. I do half decaf and half regular. I grind the decaf and the regular is already ground.

  • Team grround coz it’s quicker!

  • When I’m lazy it is an espresso capsule. When I have time to luxuriate, I roast whole beans in the garage, then hand grind, and steep in a French press.

  • Yikes, currently Team Keurig but whole bean/dark roast is my preference. As my dad would say, you shouldn’t be able to read the paper through your coffee (and I’ll add the same goes for beer)

  • Team ground all the way!!

  • Whole bean all the way!

  • WB

  • Mostly team tea or water now, but I prefer whole bean on occasion 🙂

  • Whole bean for sure. Who would want to miss the smell of coffee beans being ground?

  • Ground. I think about whole bean, but hate the sound of grinding first thing in the morning…..but wait, I could do it the night before, right?!

  • Ground here.

  • Team ground. Two to four cups a day.

  • Team Whole Bean! (I’ll drink pre-ground coffee if that’s what’s available; COFFEE is the important part. But I do prefer fresh ground from whole bean.)

  • Ground, pour over, with milk

  • Okay! After watching this video and lusting after several of these patterns, I finally decided to subscribe to the Field Guides.

  • Ground all the way.

  • Whole bean, home roasted, latte. We buy green beans (decaf for me, fully leaded for my husband), roast them in a modified popcorn popper in the garage, and grind them for amazing lattes or americanos. DH does the roasting, but I’ve done it when he’s been away. We are seriously spoiled. As my husband says, it is very hard to go back down the coffee ladder: first step is a grinder, then an espresso machine, then roasting.

  • I use whole bean, a burr grinder, and an espresso machine. I think I’m spoiled…

  • Does a mid-morning espresso count? I always start off with hot water first thing, gotta wake up the bod too! Then my espresso a little later….

    Love watching this Zoom, thanks!

  • I started out as a whole bean in the 70’s but have dropped to ground cuz I’m getting lazy and don’

    • oops-didn’t finish.
don’t want to fuss with the cleanup of grinding.

  • Whole bean!!!

  • I only drink espresso coffees, so, it could be whole beans from a coffee shop or ground in my espresso machine at home.

  • Whole bean!!!! And I’m “whole” into Atlas and Jen’s wonderful color block patterns!! Saving gauge swatches for Erika’s tote bag!!

  • When we moved into this house 20 years ago, there was a beautiful red hand cranked Italian coffee grinder left mounted on the kitchen counter, thus I grind my own in the morning. 27 cranks today? No, 35 ! Let the day begin.

  • Whole bean!

  • No coffee at all. “Caffeinated” by yarn, needles, needle sets, yarn, stitch markers, yarn, project bags, notion bags, yarn, …and so on and so on, and so on…

  • I can’t stand coffee

  • Nesoresso because I don’t have patience to wait for regular coffee but when I did, I loved grinding fresh beans for coffee.

  • Both: Coarsely ground- when I make it for others.
I may be the only person in the region who has never had a coffee!

  • Whole bean. French press. So much is in the anticipation!

  • Team ground coffee, because I’m a particularly lazy person

  • Team whole bean!

  • Does loose leaf decaf tea count?

  • Team hybrid. Ground (individual pourover packets) when it’s a quick cup for me. Whole bean when making a full carafe of pourover for the two of us or for guests.

  • Whole Bean!!

  • Team ground for me.

  • While i know its better to start with whole bean, I’ve gotten too used to the convenience of ground. Either way coffee is essential!

  • Team whole bean, and it’s “Death Wish” -the world’s strongest coffee. So smooth for a strong coffee. Three sips and you’re ready to face the day!

  • Hard call. Can’t actually make coffee with whole beans, still need to be ground. When I’ve got the time, freshly ground but packaged pre-ground

  • I rarely make coffee at home but at work we use ground.

  • Ground coffee. Grinder too noisy too early.

  • Ground coffee, whole bean is way too labor intensive in the morning!

  • I’m definitely Team Whole Beans. The aroma of grounded beans is part of the process of drinking a cuppa coffee.

  • I like the convivence of ground coffee first thing in the morning.

  • Team tea!!!!!

  • Whole bean!

  • Whole bean all the way.

  • Team ground coffee because I no longer want to bother with grinding beans myself.

  • Whole bean all the way!

  • To bean or not to bean? Whole or ground depends upon you sea of troubles as you dodge the slings and arrows of time and place. Take up the cup and enjoy the options of questions never answered.

  • Whole bean. But, of course, then I grind it.

  • Ground, half decaf

  • Whole bean, hot and black.

  • Whole Bean starting with working in a coffee house just out of college. This is before Starbucks. Oops my age is showing. Even if money is tight whole bean is the way.

  • I don’t drink coffee,,. but my husband does. He drinks ground coffee. Does this exclude me?

  • Team ground coffee!

  • Team whole bean for me!

  • Team ground!

  • Grounds for me but decaf with almond or oat milk. I’m dairy allergic and must be very careful.

  • Team whole bean, now and forever!

  • Whole bean

  • Oh good heavens, Team Whole Bean!! Are you serious? Sure, ground coffee is ok if you’re drinking it as soon as you buy it, like that day if you know the grinders, but otherwise, buy it whole!

  • I love freshly ground Arbuckle coffee and all their different flavors. Arbuckles came over the Wild West trails in the 1800’s. Wickipedia has a great article on their history.

  • I used to be whole bean, now I’m tea bag, though technically it’s not tea since it doesn’t have caffeine.

  • Team ground and lazy. Keurig!

  • Team ground on weekdays, team whole beans on the weekend! I’m Switzerland!

  • Yes coffee! Whole bean. As close to espresso as the machine will take without clogging. There’s nothing like coffee.

  • I drink tea instead. So I guess I vote pre-ground so I don’t have to listen to other people grinding theirs every morning.

  • Love whole beans – best souvenir I buy from certain countries we visit. Favorite so far was from Peru

  • Whole bean – made by my husband. I’ve got a good set-up here.

  • Whole bean all day every day.

  • Whole bean!!! Lavazza, intense!

  • My husband is the big coffee person, and I’m sure if he preferred pre-ground I wouldn’t mind. But we haven’t used ground for decades, and even when I make the coffee (not often!) I grind the beans with the rest of them!

  • I prefer whole ground. But usually drink ground coffee for convenience.

  • Team whole bean all the time!

  • I am team whole bean!

  • Ground coffee please!

  • Team loose tea leaves, please!

  • Ground, dark roast

  • Team Orange pekoe, black

  • Team ground coffee, decaf all day! The aroma in the morning just seems to call my name. Smells so yummy!

  • Whole bean coffee snob all the way!

  • No coffee for me! Maybe a Diet Coke if I need the caffeine

  • 0h always whole bean freshly ground and dripped one cup at a time! Fragrant and fresh and delicious!

  • Team….tea!!! Whole leaf – never instant!

  • Whole Bean House Blend Starbucks from Sam’s Club.
Bring it home and grind our own!

  • Team ground coffee, wishing I was Team whole bean…!

  • Both! Like to try different coffees.

  • Team ground

  • Whole bean, medium roast, to get the best flavor from the bean…..

  • Whole bean!

  • Team whole bean coffee because it is the best.

  • Tough coffee question!
I am team cold brew…from a bottle…from the grocery store! I guess that is a disappointment to purists but STOK coffee is so yummy. I will drink it, warm, with “my” yarn that I win!!! Thank you for the fun and the contests!

  • Whole bean all the way!

  • Ground! My husband makes the coffee and can’t handle grinding

  • ground

  • Ground coffee first thing in the morning, but on weekends if I make a second pot I will use a flavored whole bean.

  • Generally whole bean, but I’ll take whatever is available in the morning!

  • I’m with Kay on the whole bean, fresh ground … in the AeroPress. 😉

  • Team whole bean! My brain doesn’t start functioning until after one mug.

  • Allergic to coffee. So tea for me

  • Team whole bean when it’s coffee my 90 year old Mom has made! She has great taste in coffee from a micro roaster in Duluth

  • Ground.

  • Love the smell and taste of freshly ground coffee beans. Make my vote for whole bean coffee!

  • I love freshly ground coffee- so whole beans for me!

  • Team tea please

  • I’m on the NO COFFEE TEAM. Strictly tea, caffeinated in the morning and decaf/herb after noon. Earl Grey is a special treat!

  • Whole bean – set up the coffee maker the night before and wake up to fresh coffee. The kitchen is far enough from the bedroom that the noise isn’t bothersome. One of the kids got us a coffee of the month gift of different coffees from around the world – makes for a nice change from our Dunkin Donuts regular or Eight O’Clock French vanilla (and everything gets mixed with Eight O’Clock decaf).

  • Ground – light roast with some kind of interesting notes added

  • Whole Bean Team!

  • I’ve never learned to like coffee, unless it’s milk with a little coffee flavor. Black tea for me!

  • Team Whole Bean….and an old-fashioned burr grinder that has an actual crank handle and doesn’t need electricity to operate!

  • We are Team Whole Bean all the way. My husband is the fussy one so he makes the coffee.,Works for me!

  • I buy the ground kind. One less thing for me to mess up.

  • We use both whole bean and ground – which one is in the coffee canister? Today it is ground. Tomorrow maybe I will break out the whole bean bag.

  • Whole bean! Espresso plus Atlas plus Jen pattern equals morning perfection.

  • Team teabag!

  • Team ground. Used to be whole bean but now we prep the night before

  • Team ground coffee

  • Team ground cz I’m a halfcaf drinker

  • I’m a team Nespresso.. ground

  • I used to love the ritual of grinding the beans and making coffee and until you asked, I hadn’t thought about what made me stop doing that! It could be that crack in the top of my coffee grinder that always makes me think it’s going to break and spill coffee everywhere. Or the vast quantities of coffee we drink, maybe we just couldn’t keep up?

  • Grind my own….but at the store. Leave the mess there!

  • Absolutely whole bean, a happy ritual.

  • Team whole bean from our local roasters at Aroma Roasters. No sugar and oat milk that I foam for my ‘latte’! I can live without it but in the scheme of things it is a small luxury of self care. That and yarn of course!

  • Whole Bean Freshly Ground
Sit with the cat and enjoy before the day can start.

  • Whole bean, ground freshly each morning.

  • Whole beans!

  • Team Ground Coffee — it’s so much easier…

  • One of each, with milk, then a switch to tea for the rest of the day. Love Jen’s patterns!

  • I am flexible! Happy to not hear the coffee grinder I’m the morning, and quite pleased when the grinder goes quiet, I remove the lid and that lovely scent wafts out!

  • Yes, whole beans provide better flavor, but I need that first sip quick! So, another vote for ground .

  • Team ground coffee on the rare occasions that I drink coffee. I am really a tea drinker

  • Whole bean, definitely. It rewards you with the delicious aroma when you grind it and then again, when you brew it. We prefer medium roast, which is somewhat of a heretic statement here in the land of Starbucks burnt beans.

  • Either works for me, have a manual grinder which is somewhat contemplative, but grounds works well also.

  • I used to grind but now use ground to make my own decaf and full caff blend

  • Ground! Ready to go!

  • Ground. Whatever will get me to made coffee sooner in the morning!

  • Definitely whole bean!

  • I am very spoiled. I bought a special “gift” of a Jura espresso machine for my husband 10 years ago and it uses whole beans but grinds them for each cup of espresso or coffee. When I sent it in for service three years ago I bought a Nespresso in fear of being without for 10 days. Those are capsules, so neither bean nor ground. We also have a Bialetti stovetop espresso maker, and a French press, oh and a pour over funnel… and I have a grinder for these. I got it. I am very spoiled. Also on my third shot of the morning.

  • I love going out for great fresh coffee ground from whole beans, but I have to admit that here at home it’s instant. OK, don’t throw me out the door! HE makes the coffee and HE prefers it!

  • Whole Bean!!!!

  • neither, I do not drink coffee

  • Right now I have been using whole beans and grind the beans. It is a wonderful aroma. I do usually buy ground coffee, but a bag of whole beans encouraged me to buy a newer coffee grinder. Time for a cup. I also like tea, but coffee is a must first thing in the morning.

  • Definitely whole bean!

  • team ground on the weekdays, team whole bean on the weekends!

  • I used to be a coffee bean only, but since I found the coffee that I love the best, I use the ground. The coffee is Taste of Houston which has a touch of coconut and that touch is delicious!

  • Whole Bean

  • I use whole bean coffee but only because my husband insisted on getting a Grind & Brew coffee maker. When I use ground coffee it’s in my Bialetti stovetop espresso maker.

  • I am team instant coffee because a) no coffee-making equipment in this house, b) I have to be out of the door in 45 minutes, and c) I like dessert coffee (read: flavored chobani creamers) so the actual coffee flavor doesn’t matter much haha!

  • I’m team decaf! 😮 (I guess ground!)

  • Team ground coffee.

  • Whole bean!

  • Ground and decaf.

  • I’m Team Keurig since I have to work very early. In less than two months, I am retiring and then it will be beans all the way for a great cup of coffee to drink while I walk around my garden.

  • Team whole bean, ground the day before. Used to use an old wooden crank to grind. Love to have it back again. No static cling, no loud noises

  • Freshly ground beans are wonderful, but easy is more important to me early in the morning. So ground, it is!

  • Whole beans for me. I even got myself a small hand grinder since I only make one drip cup (big cup) a day.
I’m still a patron of Blue Bottle coffee beans, having met James Freeman 20 yrs ago when he brought his first coffee cart to our local Farmer’s Market.

  • Whole bean

  • Team ground for my cold brew set up.

  • Ground coffee drinker here. Set it up the night before with the delay brew on so it’s ready when we get up.

  • Strictly a tea drinker…morning, noon and night.

  • No coffee in this house, team Coca-Cola all the way.

  • At home – ground decaf. When I want fresh ground I visit my local coffee shop. I carry cards for my 3 favorites and enjoy knitting there while enjoying their brew. One of them even roasts on the premises.

  • Whole bean here, freshly ground.

  • Team tea!

  • Mostly beans ground just before brewing.

  • Team tea. Matcha, on days that require serious caffeine.

  • Team whole bean, all the way.

  • When drinking coffee, always beans fresh ground

  • Team whole bean for this human bean!

  • Team ground coffee so that there isn’t any delay!

  • Team ground

  • No coffee at all!. I don’t even like coffee ice cream. Team Diet Coke all the way!!!!

  • Team ground coffee in the morning please ! what a way to start my day 🙂

  • Ground coffee…much easier for my husband who has a hot pot of coffee ready and waiting when I wake up!

  • Definitely Ground Team. I barely know how to knit in the morning.

  • Whole Bean

  • Team tea here. Cuppa Earl Gray and Black Tea mixed with cream. Yummm.

  • I would love to be one of those illuminated souls who grind their coffee beans fresh every morning, place the coffee in a filter for the pour over, savoring the aroma, etc. Unfortunately, I am one of those people who should not be allowed around dangerous objects (grinder blades! hot water!) BEFORE coffee. So sign me up for Team Ground.

  • ground – I’m not awake to grind my own

  • Team Ground!

  • Team whole bean for me! There’s something about the taste plus the smell once you’ve ground them…mmmm!!

  • Team Ground (though I ground it at the store myself)

  • Team Ground, except for special occasion coffee. And someday, I will own a proper coffee burr grinder, one that doesn’t sound like a high-pitched nasal whine…..

  • Team ground. My brain needs my morning coffee to be able to perform tasks like grinding coffee beans, therefore…

  • I’m team HOT and FRESH coffee! Sometimes beans, usually ground. What a timely giveaway—I just bought Jen’s Drei pattern because I LOVE that color blocked hat!

  • I had such fun watching the video of your interview with Jen. Seeing her designs on the screen and hearing her talk about the model and the process…what great fun. Now I have to go back to my copy of the magazine with a whole new outlook! Thanks so much, it was great to knit to.

  • Whole Bean all the way!

  • I used to be team whole bean, and still am for special occasion coffee, but the daily grind is ground.

  • Now we buy our beans ground since the grinder was lost in our move

  • Team ground coffee. It’s good Arabian Mocha Java from Peet’s. Maybe I’ll go back to whole bean someday, but this works for me. Best way to enjoy a fresh cup is with knitting and an audio book, preferably outside, weather permitting. I look forward to watching the video.

  • Love the smell of coffee being ground and prepared, but I drink loose leaf black tea most of the time.

  • Team ground coffee. Unable to manage grinder before coffee

  • Team “I don’t drink coffee, but enjoy smelling the whole bean coffee my husband makes every morning”

  • Oh, I am a tea, not a coffee, drinker. I do brew a proper pot of tea each morning from loose leaves. When we have coffee drinking family and guests, we do grind the beans.

  • Ground coffee

  • Team ground!

  • Neither, rarely have coffee. Prefer tea.

  • No coffee for me. I get my caffeine either iced tea (unsweetened) or Diet Mountain Dew.

  • Team Whole beans for the coffee drinkers in my family.

  • Whole bean for me . I ground some this morning.

  • I’m Team I Don’t Care! I’m not a coffee drinker. I do have ideas about iced tea though!

  • Team ground. I have them ground it in the store so it is just right for my French press.

  • Well, it starts out as whole bean, but then I grind it. So…both?

  • I’m team tea all the way

  • I used to be whole bean, but decided my taste buds weren’t awake enough in the morning to tell the difference, and the sound of grinding really annoyed me when I was still half asleep. So now I’m mostly Team Ground.

  • Team whole bean!

  • Whole bean. I’ve tried ground, but it’s not the same.

  • Team ground coffee. I have other things to do with my time like knitting!

  • Whole bean-usually French roast

  • Well my husband is whole bean on the weekend and he puts espresso grounds in the regular pot for weekdays. I drink tea Black tea with cream by the pot for breakfast. Loose not in those bags. So there is that.

  • Team ground, I like the convenience

  • WHOLE BEAN! Starbucks French Roast! Or Stumptown Coffee’s Holler Mountain if we’re feeling plush. 🙂

  • I can’t drink coffee – very sensitive to caffeine. I love Dandy Blend!

  • Team whole bean!

  • Whole bean for preference, but it’s the coffee part that’s the non-negotiable absolutely must have, so I’m not picky if it’s already ground. Just give me the delicious caffeine hit 🙂

  • I don’t often have coffee, but when I do it’s freshly ground beans.

  • whole beans please…. Decaf sumatran if you have it.

  • Team Tea.

  • We will use ground coffee but definitely prefer whole bean. Keep bags in fridge or freezer. Need a good bur grinder. You can grind a couple cups or a whole pot at a time. So much better than pre-ground coffee. And you can support a local business or mail order. Of course there are some whole bean coffees in the grocery stores too. We have a local roaster that had been in business since 1939(?) There are a few other small roasters in our area as well.

  • Ground and in k-cups. Fastest way to needed morning caffeine.

  • Ground! Love my coffee with Snippets.

  • Ground (I guess) if eating out. Live alone, so I make instant. I measure the amount of milk that I want into my mug, fill the rest with water and then put that concoction to a pot and boil it. I put the amount of instant coffee I want into my mug in my mug, stir it together with a little bit of Starbucks Coco from a tin that I received for Christmas. Then I pour in the boiling milk-water. It tastes pretty good! But I’m finding lately that I cannot tolerste too much

  • Team ground, although I do like whole bean.

  • Absolutely- Team whole bean !!!!! ( can you tell how important it is to me )

  • Ground in the brick. I cannot stand the noise a coffee grinder makes!

  • Team Ground for me!

  • Whole bean all the way!

  • Can I say I don’t like coffee to drink? Coffee ice-cream, coffee cake, coffee chocolates are all yummy, but it’s too bitter for drinking.

  • Instant coffee for me in the morning.

  • Ground. Used to be whole bean, but then I got lazy. Occasionally I come home with whole bean by accident and then I rediscover the gorgeous aroma of freshly ground coffee.

  • Whole bean, sometimes pre-grind if lots to do in the morning.

  • I use a Keurig so ground coffee.

  • Both? Cafe du Monde in a French press when at home or a fresh ground latte from the cafe at work. I’m so predictable they start the machine when they see me heading for the door.

  • Team ground! I have to make two pots every morning. One for my husband and one for me and my daughter.

  • I’ll enjoy either. I prefer whole bean

  • Team tea. Black tea. Love the smell of coffee, but I need too many caloric additions to drink it.

  • Hmmm..late to the party. I seem to be on my own time these days. The answer is: ground coffee because (a) I am lazy and (b) I am not that picky about coffee -although lately I’ve been pretty much addicted to Keurig Illy’s. Thanks to Marthaw for suggesting Rasa when my acid reflux acts up. Getting pretty tired of the other stuff.

  • In a perfect world, I’m whole bean and french press. HOWEVER, most weekdays I opt for my keurig…almost instantaneous (sp?) pleasure.

  • Whole bean all the way!!! I love grinding my French Roast each morning before I make either a pour over, or my new favorite – Moka pot on the stove!!!!!

  • Team whole beans: after all, the aroma is the best part of the coffee!

  • Team Ground, half and half. Not very strong and lots of it. Fortunately, my husband and I are on the same team!

  • I am team loose leaf tea!

  • Team Ground Coffee and a stove percolator, real old school!!

  • I’m team powdered espresso, specifically Cafe Bustelo. Mix with milk for hot or cold latte with virtually no clean up. It will be obvious from my response that I am NOT a connoisseur – I came late to coffee drinking, via the “coffee with decorations” (latte, mocha, etc.) model, during law school and really only began enjoying coffee after I had my children. Still do not drink it black. Ever. I do love a really good latte, and so sometimes we buy beans from places we love and make our own espresso in the MokaPot.

  • Good coffee delivered right to my sleepy morning waking brain. Have been lucky to have some excellent coffee beans in my weekly boxes from my dumpster-diving friends recently. Precious! Saving exhorbitant take-out $ coffee!

  • Ground. Used to always be whole bean but for ease and quiet went to ground.

  • Team Whole Bean! well really, team CREAM! It’s a must have.

  • Team Whole Bean – all the way. Since the 80’s when I started living on my own.

  • Definitely Team Whole Bean in a perfect cup of cappuccino!

  • Well, I love to grind and brew my coffee in a French Press and we often will enjoy this on a weekend morning.

However, since there is not a lot of time in the morning before work we use a Keurig and that makes me “mostly” a ground coffee person, as this happens 5 days a week.

  • I used to be Team Cold Brew concentrate. Then my hubs bought a Baratza.

  • Team whole bean — because life’s too short for anything but amazing coffee.

  • If I drank coffee, it would probably be whole bean.

  • My grinder always leaves rogue whole beans behind. I have gone back to ground coffee.

  • Team Whole Beans!

  • 1/2 decaf ground & 1/2 regular ground trying to cut back on caffeine

  • I do ground coffee. I do shift work so I need to be able to get my coffee ready quickly.

  • I’m not a coffee drinker. I prefer hot spiced apple cider.

  • Ground 🙂

  • That’s a hard one!! I love both each has it perks I love freshly ground dark roast in a drip the flavours seem to come out more to me. In mornings when I need my go go juice I go for grounded beans!! Either way I need my beans to get my day going and I love a quiet morning with my knitting and a hot brewed coffee and my puppy.

  • Ground coffee. I’m very lazy.

  • WOW – GROUND by somebody else (at the coffee store) But may have to re-visit grinding as I go

  • Team ground because (even though whole bean may taste better) I like my morning coffee stat!

  • Whole bean. Tastes better. Will make some now.

  • Whole Bean all the way. The darker, the better.

  • Team whole bean all the way.

  • team whole bean. Have a quiet hand crank wall grinder

  • Go Team Ground!

  • Grinding whole beans is my happy way of starting the day.

  • Ground!

  • Ground

  • I’m with team Ground Coffee. No sugar. Decaf. Instant. Sorry, coffee lovers. I grew up with this stuff and it takes me back home every morning.

  • Team whole bean! Lovely patterns by Jen G too, looking forward to knitting with Atlas.

  • I enjoy whole bean when I visit my bff in Maryland (her hubby grinds the beans) but it’s usually the best ground coffee I can find when at home in California.

  • Whole bean!

  • Whole bean since 2020. A friend showed me how to use my French press to make French Press or cold brew coffee

  • Whole bean French press

  • Team cold brew — just add hot water!

  • Whole bean. Well my husband is. To clarify, my man is The Whole Bean!

  • Definitely whole bean. Sometimes I’ll remember to grind some beans the night before so my partner (the early riser) doesn’t have to wait on me wakening to have her first thing in the morning coffee.

  • I came late to coffee and all I have at home is a Nespresso machine, so team (fully recyclable) pod?

  • Team “Any-Kind-O-Tea”…..because coffee is p-yuck.

  • Are you telling me that you can buy coffee that is already ground?!?

  • team ground coffee – cuz I’m lazy and want more time for knitting 😉

  • I like freshly ground coffee best, but my dog is terrified of the grinder, so I usually use ground coffee (or I grind it when she is outside in large batches).

  • I am allergic to coffee, and only drink tea! My husband is a whole coffee bean guy.

  • Whole bean before I fell down the pods rabbit hole. The older I get, the more I seek out the easy ways.

  • Team Ground!

  • I am not a coffee drinker but If I were I would purchase it already ground.

  • Whole bean otherwise it would be stale too soon.

  • Team ground! I use those extra minutes when I’m not grinding my beans for knitting!

  • Definitely ground. Who has time to grind beans in the morning before that first cup.

  • Whole bean, blonde roast… heaven in a cup.

  • Team whole bean for sure. And I roast my own beans most of the time.

  • Depends on the day which team I’m on. if I need to be quiet, definitely team ground. If I have time and the sound of the grinder won’t wake up the family, team whole bean!

  • Instant for me. I only drink one cup a day, and am way too impatient to wait for coffee in the morning.

  • I used to be Team Ground but currently am Team Green Tea 🙂

  • Team ground for sure.

  • Loose leaf tea, but I keep whole bean coffee and a grinder for guests to use with the French press.

  • Tea only (black tea with a splash of milk) for me, the only person in my extended family who does not drink coffee. My grandmother always had a jar of strong French drip coffee in the frig.

  • Team Whole Bean all the way!

  • No coffee. It makes my hands shake.

  • First tea. Red Rose in a pot. Black. 10 am ground. Chock Full of Nuts with half and half.

  • Team whole bean, but mostly team Keurig

  • Def team whole bean!

  • This early riser us on the bucks white chocolate mocha frappachino
FRESHLY GROUND FRENCH ROAST COFFEE TEAM ~ wonderful to sip all morning ~ especially between rows!
    YUMMM

  • Ground coffee! So much quicker

  • I’m the only coffee drinker in the house and I’m grabbing it as I head out the door. That being said I confess to being an anti earth kuereg user these days.

  • Ground for me, please.

  • Ground coffee

  • Team ground coffee as it’s so much easier and faster!

  • Team whole bean all the way! I tend to pick up bags (sometimes even stock up) on my travels, and I like the freshness of being able to grind at home. I have enough to last me into summer after my last trip to Colombia 🙂

  • I am Team Tea, and sometimes Team Diet Coke.

  • I’m a lazy get me my coffee asap ground coffee drinker

  • Whole bean! Husband is proud to offer a nightly grind and coffee maker prep. Everyone should have someone willing to grind it for them fresh on demand. . .

  • Definitely ground….too early to fuss with whole beans!

  • I am a teacher, and during the school year, there’s time only for snapping a coffee pod into the machine and running out the door with a cup in hand. The summer is a different story! The summer is all about stovetop espresso, made with freshly-ground beans and mixed with coconut milk to be savored gratefully while it’s still hot(!).

  • Sadly cannot drink coffee anymore so I am now on Team Loose Leaf Tea.

  • Whole bean- swings diplomat 😉

  • Team Ground Coffee! I get up early, and have a cup of coffee before anyone else is awake. A grinder would wake them up, and I would miss my morning solitude!

  • My palate is not that sophisticated. Either works for me!

  • Whole bean 4evah!

  • Ground coffee please! My grinder broke years ago.

  • Team whole bean at home. Ground coffee is fine when on vacation and I don’t have a grinder. That’s when I get to try different varieties.

  • Whole bean for me!

  • We’re Team Tea – loose black tea, carefully measured by scoop into a large paper tea bag. Type of tea varies with the mood of the morning & needs of the day. Assam is full-bodied & robust; Ceylon a bit smoother. Some blends for other types of day. Rinse the tea pot with a splash the boiling water to warm it, pour the boiling water over the tea leaves, set the timer.

  • Team ground..Community Coffee, dark roast. French press brew!

  • Definitely whole bean!

  • Team Whole Bean. I just love the smell of coffee beans first thing in the morning as we fix our breakfast. It is one of the gifts of life.

  • team whole bean and fancy grinder!

  • Team whole bean, definitely. The beans contribute to the quality of my life. Modern Daily Knitting does as well!

  • Team ground so that special someone, aka my husband, can make it for me and bring to me before I get out of bed whenever possible.

  • Whole bean, fresh ground all the way!

  • Good morning everyone, I am brewing ground coffee, using french press – i love Saturday morning s reading and watching any segments of Mdk and drinking my fresh coffee! Ground at the store i love Larrys beans

  • Whole bean, with a good grinder. Though I spend a lot of mornings at my son’s taking care of kids and dogs, and there I am merely a pod

  • Ground and put in the pot the night before – guess I’m not too fussy.

  • Team ground! The noise of a grinder ruins the experience for me.

  • I’m Team ground coffee. Does it count if they’re ground Keurig? They make the best Italian roast in decaf ever!

  • Any strong coffee is good enough for me, just as long as it’s coffee flavored, not blueberry-matcha-pumpkinspice flavored!

  • While bean of course! Ground fresh every morning.

  • Whole bean every day!

    • No beans! I don’t drink coffee but I sure do love the aroma of my hubby’s ground beans every morning. That and the smell of his fresh baked bread!

  • Whole beans for sure!

  • Team Whole Bean all the way!

  • Neither. Yea please!

  • Team Whole Bean.

  • Team ground coffee

  • Team whole bean —Major Dickason’s Blend specifically — forever!

  • Team ground coffee-ready as soon as I open the bag. Let someone else do the work, and I won’t have to have another electronic device in my kitchen.

  • Whole beans, ground fresh a la minute

  • This is probably terrible, but neither. Instant coffee.

  • Neither. No coffee for me, thank you!

  • Definitely team whole bean. My husband embraces his Finnish heritage with his love for coffee. We buy 5 lb bags of the darkest roast from our neighbourhood roasting goddess. Freshly ground beans and French press prepared it’s heaven in a cup. I sip it slowly each morning while watching utube knitting videos and peacefully knitting. The best start to my day!

  • Coffee? Yes! Any bean’s a good bean!!

  • Whole Bean!

  • 100% – Team Whole Bean

  • Sorry. Can’t help. Off coffee. Roasted dandelion concoction for me.

  • Whole bean. Plus we buy them green and roast our own.

  • I use whole beans every morning!

  • Whole bean!

  • Oh, I’m guess I’m a ground coffee girl. It’s so easy to pop a pod into my kuerig!

  • Team ground coffee because I’m not awake enough to have to grind beans too

  • Tea bags all the way! No grinding required.

  • I am actually 80% Team Tea (as a result of a childhood “steeped” in deep Irish traditions) and 20% Team Ground Coffee. Love a cup of decaf coffee at the end of the day.

  • Ground or bust!

  • Definitely team whole bean. Why? My husband loves to grind the beans – and he insists on setting up my coffee to brew when I wake in the morning – and he sleeps in with the dog. I’m up early with the cats and enjoy my time in a quiet house. Perfect for knitting.

  • Definitely team whole bean on weekends and holidays—but team ground on workdays.

  • Team Whole Bean. I stick a finger in one ear and hunch a shoulder over the other to save my hearing. The resulting brew is worth the gymnastics!

  • Team Ground! I’m too impatient to wait for my caffeine fix in the mornings.

  • I’m team green tea. Specifically Harney & Sons dragon pearl jasmine. Used to be team ground beams but my gut can’t handle it anymore…..

  • Tea, always a morning cups tea

  • Ground coffee! PEETS coffee…sent to me in the mail every month!

  • Coffee blech. Team black tea with milk!!

  • I drink tea English style with a little sugar and milk.

  • Definitely Whole Beaner here, but in the lazy column: inherited a mega expensive De’Longhi coffee/cappuccino machine when daughter moved to New Zealand so with 2 button pushes it delivers a delicious black brew from whole beans. And even better, husband delivers it to me in bed each morning. Finer things in life!

  • My doctor does not want me drinking ANY caffeine (break my heart) but when I do whole bean is mmmm delicious. Regrettably I usually drink a combo of decaf & ground cocoa nibs from a French press. It is delicious!

  • Team Fastest Method Available! Cold brew in the fridge, Keurig, or instant granules for me! I need my caffeine stat!!

  • Oh, definitely Team Ground. I can’t stand the noise of the grinder on dark mornings (and my mornings are way before sunrise).

  • Ground Folgers ….”Best part of waking up “

  • Whole bean please.

  • Team neither…I don’t drink coffee! I am an iced tea girl, every day, all year. Love it!

  • Whole bean from our local roaster. Grind as needed for a perfect americano. I’m a 1 cup a day girl and it’s gotta be perfect!

  • Team ground beans. I try to simplify my morning routine.

  • Team ground coffee

  • We are a split household. He makes my drip coffee with pre-ground from the roaster, then I grind his for the French press

  • Whole bean

  • Ground, mostly for the convenience. I miss the make your own coffee bean mix that our local grocery store used to have. Several flavors and an breakfast blend base meant yummy!

  • Lazy me, I’m Peet’s K-Cups. Love the pullover sweater featured.

  • Whole bean forever

  • Team Instant

  • Team ground! Too much noise from the grinder at a,moment when I NEED COFFEE to think.

  • Whole beans, decaf.

  • Mostly Team Ground, as I am basically lazy and hate that extra step in the morning. But at the moment, all I have is beans, so this morning I played for the opposition!

  • Team whole bean, all the way!

  • Whole bean, always.

  • Team whole bean. I personally prefer tea to coffee ☕️

  • I always grind whole beans unless traveling or renting a vacation home. I also make one cup at a time using the pour over method.

  • Team Ground! Priority is fast delivery of caffeine!

  • I go with what my husband does every morning for me – whole beans.

  • Whole bean at home, ground on the boat.

  • Whole beans, ground for French press (for hot or soak for iced.) Also love my Nespresso!

  • Team ground
I need quiet knitting time when I awake

  • Team tea!

  • I am so definitely Team Whole Bean. If I’m traveling and there is a local coffee roaster with beans for sale yes, I buy. It’s my second must-do after checking out the yarn show.

  • I grind the entire package of whole beans and keep it airtight in the cupboard, so does that make me “part whole” and “part ground”?

  • I use a Nespresso machine and use the virtuo capsules, so ground coffee is what I use.

  • Team whole beans! I have a wonderful grinder to grind fresh beans every morning!

  • Whole bean!

  • Team WAWA iced coffee The best

  • GROUND! I don’t use machinery when half-asleep!

  • Whole bean, yep! And coffee snob son’s recent gift of a burr grinder really gets the job done right now. (The grinder I’d been happily using for years was apparently just hacking the beans to death or something. Déclassé )

  • I’m Team Ground by virtue of being an unrepentant Cafe Bustelo fan.

  • Team Nespresso pods!

  • Whole bean and we make a 22-hour cold brew too

  • I’m whole bean all the way. Not only that, we buy green beans and my husband roasts them himself using his own special technique. I’m sooooo spoiled!

  • Usually whole bean, but we also use ground. 🙂

  • Team ground, mostly because I do not need one more kitchen gadget. Really. Decaf ground, all the way. And I mix my own blend to make it just so.

  • Team whole bean!

  • Morning tea drinker here, although occasionally I have a cup of Joe instead…when I do, it’s ground coffee (and decaf too—I try to stay away from caffeine).

  • Tean whole bean for sure, but also sometimes a sneaky team instant coffee when I’m lazy.

  • Team ground, because I’m not a “real” coffee drinker. I just make lattes from cold brew concentrate, then add my vanilla protein powder and shake-shake-shake.

  • WHOLE BEAN BABY! French roast!

  • We’re Team Ground! Always in a hurry to get that first pot a’brewin’.

  • My husband usually brews…Costco’s gold bag, ground coffee. Love both

  • Flavor! Bean source & type, acidity balance are important.
For hot coffee, my choice comes both ways….ground & whole bean.
For Iced coffee I use a more robust variety always grinding my own beans, brewing at a slower drip for denser flavor.
I find my burr grinder performs better than any blade variety I have tried.
My first cup/glass year round is not rushed. I allow myself enough time each morning to notice small moments, positive thoughts, set myself up with a collected memory for the day. Sit & knit watching birds forage, watch a bee work a flower…watch one inside a poppy, amazing!
Time management is more important…this routine sounds like a luxury, it isn’t. This is a daily choice of time management, possible even on long workdays.
And…..because I do have budget limits….always watch for sale on my choices.

  • I’m actually team hot chocolate.

  • Whole bean vs ground coffee is similar to whole leaf or tea bag tea. I like my beans and my tea leaves whole.

  • I see someone else doesn’t appreciate the “wakefulness” of the coffee grinder first thing in the morning. Start with whole beans but grind a weeks worth ahead of time:)

  • I am Team “I Don’t Drink Coffee” lol

  • Team Ground. We killed the grinder at our house and haven’t replaced it, but we do miss the whole bean fresh ground…

  • Both. Factors include what’s in the house? Did my husband grind some when he got up? How hurried am I in the morning? Etc…

  • Team While Bean here!

    • Whole bean. Can’t beat the smell of fresh ground. Love the bit of oil from the beans too.

  • I’m team whole bean when I’m making a pot – but team single-serve pod for just one cup.

  • I am team “Whoever is making coffee, I’ll take a cup. Black please, because that leaves more room in the cup for coffee!”

  • Always a gigantic mug of good strong ground coffee organic while reading your newsletter.

  • Whole bean… pour over…. Enjoying a cup now.

  • I’m team ground when making my cold brew & team whole bean for my regular 5 times a day coffee. my maker grinds & brews all in 1 go & it’s brilliant!

  • Whole bean for sure!

  • Nope don’t do coffee! Never liked the taste or smell!

  • Tea, NOT coffee, sorry!

  • Ground, please. Whole beans are too fussy.

  • I WANT to be a whole bean person, but truth is, I rarely take the time. I tend to have beans, ground AND k-cups in my pantry.

  • I grind beans where I buy them, then mix more or less combos of decaf and caf!

  • Sorry, but I use those nasty plastic cups. So sorry…

  • team ground-! we ground at the store. we go through coffee so quickly in this house…

  • I am team coffee-gives-me-a-tummy-ache. I drink tea instead. However, when I do drink coffee, usually after a big meal, I prefer whole beans freshly ground. I dated a coffee snob who insisted on it.

  • Totally whole bean. I grind a bag and store it in an airtight container.

  • I’m a decaf person with lots of heartburn, it’s either decaf tea or water only

  • Team bean for sure when we have coffee but we are more a team tea couple.

  • Only instant decaf for me!

  • I’m Team Whole Leaf – no bean. My husband tells me I’m a tea snob – usually lovingly! The smell of coffee makes me nauseous and I’ve never enjoyed the taste of it. But I fell in love with tea early on – black, imported from England and unbagged please! Yes, I have a cabinet full of tea pots, sugars, creamers, and cups with saucers. He’s worse than I am at adding to that cabinet. And I’d like to add that I drink my tea as the Scottish do – brown (Demerara for us Americans) sugar and milk, not cream. A good cup of tea is not to be beat!

  • Mostly ground. Whole bean is wonderful when I have the time and my husband is not sleeping!

  • Ground coffee only for ease.

  • Team no beans or coffee!!! TEAM TEA!!!!

  • Whole bean, locally roasted and fresh, drip. I like my coffee.

  • Store bought ground. Used to grind whole beans but my grinder pooped out and I haven’t gotten around to replacing it.

  • Ground coffee. Had four coffee grinders, all died. Plus, I don’t like the noise.

  • Whole bean for sure. It’s much fresher and tastier.

  • If I make coffee, it’s whole bean, but that never happens until I’ve had at least a pot of Yorkshire Gold tea! I’m Ukrainian Canadian after all!

  • Bleck! Coffee, ew! Tea all the way baby!

  • Ground, too lazy most of the time!

  • Definitely a good ground coffee, can’t wait any longer than necessary for that first cup!

  • Team ground, but I grind my brand on Monday for the rest of the week. It feels like it’s slightly fresher, but I don’t know if that’s true.

  • Team Whole Bean for decades already … 🙂

  • Ground! Fast & easy when I’m in need!

  • I don’t drink coffee, but I do knit

  • Definitely, ground but, since we have soooo many coffee companies in Oregon, many different grinds, but not all at once.

  • Much prefer freshly ground coffee beans but since I’m the only real coffee drinker and can only drink one or two cups a day, I have resorted mostly to preground lately. Either way, love knitting with a great cup of coffee and classical music or jazz on the radio as accompaniment. And I’m looking forward to an enhanced experience with four bright and bouncy skeins of Atlas at hand if you choose me

  • Neither since I am not a coffee drinker. I have tea every once in a while but usually my drink of choice is water. Boring, I know.

  • Whole Bean (for the hubs. I drink tea)

  • For everyday, I grind in the store myself.

  • I’m definitely team ground — I get my Austrian coffee from our local Global Food Market. It’s the BEST!!

  • Team ground coffee

  • Ground! Who has time?!?

  • Whole Bean

  • Whole Bean – it tastes so much better. (If noise is an issue for others in the house I might grind it the night before, but not earlier than that.)

  • Would love to be Team Whole Bean, but the noise of grinding in the morning wakes everyone else up, so Team Ground it is.

  • Totally depends on how desperate I am for that first cup. All things being equal I prefer to grind my own, but Grounds & Hounds has some amazing flavors (helli Madagascar Vanilla) that aren’t available in whole bean. I try to grind a few days’ worth of beans at a time to make my mornings simpler as I am NOT a morning person.

  • I wish I had room for a grinder and fancy coffee machine, but with my tiny kitchen I use ground coffee and a stove top moka pot.

  • I love my AM coffee so much, I sprung for an espresso machine with whole bean grinder and milk frother. So that’s how I make my coffee every morning.

  • Ground coffee in a pod.

  • Team ground coffee

  • I am team Neither. I love loose leaf tea though.

  • Team bean–but it is also because my husband sets the coffee up the night before and it is ready when I get to the kitchen in the morning

  • I’m on Team Tea to start my days – usually Irish Breakfast or Scottish Breakfast but Lipton is fine too!

  • Team ground coffee. I once put the water in the chamber and pushed the start button, then watched as hot water poured forth. I neglected to add the coffee. Apparently I need coffee in order to make the coffee.

  • I’m team “ don’t make it at home “!

  • Tea, not coffee

  • Team ground! Go team.

  • Team whole bean

  • Team ground coffee for my lattes

  • Fresh ground. Love the smell.
