Dear knitter,

Welcome to your Saturday!

Deep winter is prime knitting time, so it’s no surprise that things are hopping at MDK—so many fun adventures for knitters.

A Merry Knitalong

In the MDK Lounge, on Instagram, and on the streets of your town, the Setesdal Hat knitalong is in full swing. Go have a look and get inspired! Post your progress in the Lounge or on Instagram with #moderndailyknitting and #arneandcarlos, and you’ll be eligible for awesome prizes.

The yarn is beautiful Norwegian Wool, specially designed by Arne & Carlos for their designs. Grab one skein each of five colors—or one each of two colors—here for your Setesdal Hat, and you’ll find yourself mesmerized like we are. And of course, our exclusive yarn bundle is available too, here.

Ann has already knit three Setesdal Hats—we call that a good start.

Looking for tips and good company while you knit? We are loving the Wednesday hangouts with Arne & Carlos on their podcast. Last week and this week they went deep into the Setesdal Hat on their beloved podcast, Sit and Knit for a Bit! You’ll also find helpful video links here

Temperature Blanket Season

Behind the scenes, Kay is plotting and planning a brand-new temperature project for 2023. With all the beautiful temperature projects knitters made in 2022 to choose from, the question is: which pattern? (She’s currently leaning toward log cabin, but you never know with Kay.)

To get your own temperature project started, we’ve restocked our wildly popular Temperature Blanket Starter Packs, so get ’em while we’ve got ’em. You can also cook up your own shade card from the full palette of Rowan’s glorious forever yarn, Felted Tweed

Meanwhile . . .

We had a big time on MDK this week.

Someday, Patty Lyons will answer a question that isn’t about how to make something jogless, but today is not that day. Here you go: Jogless Stranded Colorwork. Don’t miss the video!

Quick, simple, and full of flavor: thanks to Sarah Ross’s recipe file, this is how we make salmon now.

This weekend, we’re in New York at Vogue Knitting Live. We cordially invite you to come to our talks with designer Joji Locatelli—or please say hi in the marketplace!

We don’t want you to miss this astonishing documentary, which honors and preserves history that was supposed to have been erased.

This week’s giveaway is a celebration of designers who are Black, indigenous, and people of color. We’ll be sending five winners the pattern of their choice from this extremely juicy list of designers and designs on Ravelry.

Remember to enter the giveaway by midnight Central time Sunday night. While you’re there, browse the exciting designs your fellow MDK readers love, and support the designers by favoriting, buying, and knitting the patterns they’ve created.

If you’re new to MDK, welcome. We built this place for you. Our mission is to elevate the knitting life, by providing free daily content, exciting designers, friendly community, and a first-class shopping experience. If you have a question, or something is not right, email us at hello@moderndailyknitting.com, and you’ll get a prompt personal response from Nathan or Kay.

Stay healthy, take care of each other, and knit on.

Love,

Ann and Kay

  • I have my temperature blanket started. I love doing it everyday. I am spit splicing my changes everyday so no end to weave in.

    • Future You is going to thank Today You so much for getting your spit splicing game going!

  • I’m up to date on my temperature scarf which I’m knitting in the round. Have perused every known jogless stripe video around! 3 rows of different colors sometimes (only doing a row per day).

  • Grace by Denise Bayron. This pullover is exactly what I’ve been dreaming about lately, it’s amazing how the front cable panel and details align with what I’ve wanted in a sweater! This is a definite must-have for me!

    • Oops! Posted this in the wrong spot
But re: the temperature blanket progress (!), mine will be monthly squares done in a linen stitch (crocheted) using 14 colors for temps ranging from below 29 to above 98. I’m in the SC lowcountry area so our temps are all over the place. The January square is done and blocked — and I love it! Such a fun project. It’s only Feb 12 and I already have seven colors in the square!
