What’s New?
A weight of yarn you may not have tried for socks: DK weight.
We thought fingering weight yarn was the only game in town. Not at all!
We’re loving the way DK weight yarn makes a sock happen faster.
And they feel so good, thankns to the extra cushion that comes with this weight of yarn.

If you’re a sock veteran, get ready for clever techniques that may surprise you. And if you’re new to socks, you’re going to love these designs. And these yarns.

The Yarns
One of the sweetest things about this Field Guide is the friendship of Fatimah and her dear friends Shobha Nadarajah and Adella Colvin. These beloved hand dyers have created DK-weight yarns for Fatimah’s designs—they worked together as the Field Guide was created, so there’s a beautiful synergy between the sock patterns and these yarns.
Agni T by Serendipitous Wool. Truly delicious. We would love a sock drawer filled with these tweedy colors.
Agni Y by Serendipitous Wool. All natural fibers, extremely luxurious: merino, silk, and yak. The silk adds strength and luster. Yak is a pale gray natural color that casts a depth to the hand-dyed color. And merino is, well, you know about that.
Agni N by Serendipitous Wool. Mini skeins so you can add stripes, cuffs, heels, toes as you like.
Pinto Bean by Lolabean Yarn Co. Adella Colvin is a genius when it comes to artful color. We love the fact that a hand-dyed skein of yarn is unique, a work of art. We think the palette here is especially great for Fatimah’s cable socks—low-key speckles that will work well with the texture of the cables.
The Sockiest Knitalong
We’ll be announcing a sock knitalong that we fully expect will result in all sorts of socks. Toe up, cuff down, knee socks, short socks, cables big and small—all glorious, and all reflecting your own choices of yarn, color, and pattern.
Maybe you’ve never knit a sock. This Field Guide is for you.
Maybe you’ve knit a hundred socks. You’re going to really love this.
We’re discovering that the moment we finish one of these socks, we’re already scheming up the next one. It’s going to be a glorious summer—please join us!
Love,
Ann and Kay
These patterns are lovely.
At last socks designed for the wider foot.
Thank you
So very excited for this!! I love a dk sock … can’t wait to see what Fatimah has dreamed up for us.
Woot ! It looks fantastic!
You had me at tweed! Such gorgeous shades!
I am THRILLED to read about the DK socks…. I really dislike thin socks, and almost all sock patterns are for thin. I like squishy, comfy, cushion-y socks… and don’t want to have to re-draft every pattern. Can’t wait to see this guide! KUDOS to all of you!
I feel the need. The need for tweed … socks!
What a blessing! My old arthritic hands are not happy with size 1 needles, so it’s always dk when I make socks. I’m looking forward to some fresh inspiration.
The Lookbook and all the patterns and yarns! Gorgeous!
I’m trying to knit a hundred socks LOL, yes this field guide is for me.
love bessie
Honest question, aren’t DK socks tighter in shoes?
If I sign up for the class on the 21st and can’t watch for the entire three hours, will I be able to catch a video later? Thanks!
Because of neuropathy, I have balance issues and have to wear some ugly a$$ shoes every day – even with dresses. I have decided to really go whole foot forward with this and knit myself some tremendous socks. It is better than face planting on cement once a week. And I love DK weight yarn.
This is so exciting! I love Fatimah’s designs and unique perspective.
