Friends, this is going to be a Summer of Socks like no other. It all starts with a new weight of yarn: DK weight, rather than the typical fingering weight.

We had no idea how much fun comes with a basic alteration like this. Socks knit up faster. They’re supersmooshy. And with Fatimah Hinds as our guide, we embark on a fantastic journey of clever cables and intriguing techniques.

We had a big time on MDK this week.

The Project: The Calliope Basket is a great starter project for beginning basketeers. The natural raffia material coils beautifully, transitioning organically from one color to another and creating a lightweight, flexible, yet sturdy vessel. You’ll learn the basic technique without worrying too much about counting or exactness, and shape your basket as you wish, from a shallow container to a curved bowl shape. With 5 colors in the kit, no two baskets will be alike!
