Happy Saturday!

When the weather is hot, we love to crank up the box fan, grab our hydration of choice and our knitting, and hang out with a bunch of knitters. To that end, we’ve lined up a cool, refreshing summer of MDK virtual events.

Next up: our first-ever event with Franklin Habit! Please join us with Franklin for a lighthearted, lavishly illustrated talk. We’ll learn about where, when and how the first printed knitting patterns appeared; hear the stories of the pioneering women who made their fortunes catering to the first generations of leisure needleworkers; marvel at spectacular examples of primordial errata; and experience the many joys (and otherwise) of bringing nineteenth-century designs to life.

Franklin’s knowledge of all things knitting is fascinating, encyclopedic; if you have been following his Letters from Paris here on MDK, you know what we mean. And you know that he is one of the wittiest people you’ll ever meet, a raconteur like no other.

It’s going to be great—can you tell we’re excited? Register now for this July 12 virtual event.

Meanwhile…

We had a big time on MDK this week.

We joined Jillian Moreno on a wool chase in the land of Beatrix Potter, the Brontës, and All Creatures Great and Small.

With the weather, government, and global sporting events throwing everything off-kilter, Franklin Habit knits a cardigan—for himself! And from a pattern!

How do you keep a vacation vibe going when you get home? Max Daniels wants to know.

Give her a cookie; Kay made a handy cheat sheet for the cable charts of Field Guide No. 27. Clip & save!

Here’s a delicious series to knit to, chock-full of glimmers.

Support What You Love

MDK is proud to be a snippet in the fabric (get it?) of small businesses and creative people who make the knitting world so vibrant. When we look at our accounts payable, we’re thrilled to be giving vital support to yarnmakers, artisans, teachers, and writers we love. It’s a daily challenge to make our tiny business go, and we’re grateful to everyone who shops with us for helping us do that.

Questions? Email us anytime at hello@moderndailyknitting.com, and you’ll get a prompt personal response from a real live MDK person.

Stay healthy, take care of each other, and knit on.

Love,

Ann and Kay

PS Please forward this Snippets to a knitter—we appreciate it so much!

Summer of Socks

This summer is all about the joys of sock knitting, through Fatimah Hinds’s four designs for MDK Field Guide No. 27: Sock Odyssey. Suddenly, socks are super easy to attain, because we’re using DK weight yarns, rather than the typical fingering weight.

What a difference that change makes! Socks knit up faster. They’re extra cushiony and comfy. And with Fatimah Hinds as our guide, we embark on a fantastic journey of clever cables and intriguing techniques.

Explore the stunning yarns and designs featured in Field Guide No. 27 below.
