MDK Gems: New Sock Yarns Plus Our Bestselling Sock Guide
Dear knitters who love socks,
We’ve got a treat for your tootsies this month—the Field Guide that started our sock obsession is the star of our special offer.
Field Guide No. 11: Wanderlust is one of our most popular Field Guides. Wendy Bernard explains the basics of fingering-weight sock making—toe up, cuff down—with a set of 12 knit-purl stitch patterns that you can mix and match for endlessly beautiful results with fingering-weight sock yarns.
If you’re having fun with the DK-weight socks of our new Field Guide No. 27: Sock Odyssey, you’ll love Wanderlust. They make perfect companions in your handmade sock journey.
And we’ve just received two fingering weight yarns that have long been favorites of MDK knitters: Neighborhood Fiber Co. Organic Studio Sock and Zauberball Crazy.
The special deal?
When you order any quantity of these yarns, we’ll email you a free PDF ebook for Field Guide No. 11: Wanderlust.
And remember! Field Guide subscribers save 10% when using the monthly coupon code we emailed you on July 1.
The yarns? Scrumtrelescent! Read on . . .
Organic Studio Sock!
We love Neighborhood Fiber Co. Organic Studio Sock for its rich, hand-dyed color and for its innovative all-wool construction. It’s machine washable too.
We just received a brand-new set of Karida Collins’s amazing colorways. Fifteen colors, each a party in a skein.
This 100% merino is milled with 8 plies—4 sets of 2-ply yarn, which makes for a durable yarn without nylon. It’s GOTS-certified organic. External Link. Opens in new window. wool.
Organic Studio Sock is still 100 percent machine-washable merino, but the wool is minimally processed, without using chemical superwash agents.
Organic Studio Sock is one of our favorite sock yarns—a single skein yields a pair of socks in most sizes. Deliciously comfortable—and sturdy too.
Zauberball CRAZY!
Should be listed as a controlled substance by the Food and Drug Administration. Wildly addicting, with colorways that seem over the top until you start knitting with them and discover how artful the color sense is. We’ve just brought in 16 colors of Zauberball Crazy that reveal just how brilliant the good folks at Schoppel are at this.
We even brought in four Slightly Less Crazies, for those times when you’re knitting for somebody who enjoys a dialed-back color statement in their footular area. Here’s Divinity.
We have made so much stuff with this barber-pole bonker yarn. Socks in particular are ridiculously fun–the simplest stockinette or ribbed sock becomes an absolute party as you go. The breathless question of Is It Orange Yet? is the kind of drama we really love.
We’ve seen tons of beautiful scarves and shawls made with this yarn.
To Recap
Our MDK Gem runs through Tuesday, July 16, so tarry not. Buy any quantity of either Zauberball Crazy or Organic Studio Sock, and we’ll email you a free ebook edition of Field Guide No. 11: Wanderlust.

Ann and Kay
SO happy Zauberball is back! That is the best sock yarn ever, I have pairs that are 6-7 years old and barely beginning to wear out. And like you say, never boring while being knit up!
These are the times that … call for barber-pole bonker yarn.
Oh, my gosh! Two of my favorite sock yarns when I want to knit my family socks for winterthing presents?! Ann, Kay, and all the MDK folks, you are the answer to my hopes! Thank you!
