Eye Candy: Those Mitts, That Hat
Dear everybody,
The thing about Norah Gaughan is that she generates a never-ending parade of inventiveness.
She never stops fooling around with stitches and cables, and we’re lucky in Field Guide No. 28: Renewal to see a couple of projects that show us exactly what Norah does when she’s doodling with yarn.
Thing No. 1: Austen Mitts
A simple tube of knitting, right? Wrong! Norah gives us a cable, but makes the center of it a thumbhole.
Boop! Wouldya look at that? These Austen Mitts are pure and simple fun. A ball of Rowan Felted Tweed is all you need for this project. (We just brought in a bunch of new colors, just sayin.)
Thing No. 2: Jacobs Hat
We wanted to have a hat in this collection. With the Jacobs Hat, Norah riffs easily and elegantly on the Jacobs Cardigan, the knit-purl showstopper in this Field Guide.
Here, the Jacobs Hat borrows stitch patterns—but the construction takes all those knits and purls and forms them into a perfect little beanie.
It’s a delicious bit of knitting, and we think it’s a great way to try out our new MDK-exclusive yarn, Jane. Two skeins are all you need.
Thanks for all the great reaction to Norah’s new collection of designs—we’re so glad you’re liking it. We have lots of knitting ahead this fall—hope you’ll join us and set yourself up with a Norah Gaughan cardigan.
Love,
Ann
Thank you for including smaller projects in your Field Guides! These are both lovely, and I’m sure I’ll be making both. They’ll be delightful gifts.
They’re lovely *and* you named them after me?!? 😉 Guess I’d better cast on!
One mitt complete, one to go, with a ball of Rowan Felted Tweed, purple. These will be to send to my sister with one broken wrist, one severely sprained. Warmth and comfort to help the healing.
I love these projects and can’t wait to cast on! Not sure which I will make first, they are both so beautiful!
Thank you!
