You’ve Got Snippets: January 25, 2025
Dear knitter,
Happy Saturday!
It’s an exciting time at MDK, as we get ready for Nash Yarn Fest, aka the biggest in-person party we’ve ever thrown. Scroll down to read all about it. We’d love to have you with us for this epic first for Nashville.
Meanwhile, there’s something very special that we don’t want you to sleep on. On February 7, one of our favorite people, Ann Weaver, will teach us mosaic knitting, with a gorgeous virtual shawl workshop.
The project stopped us in our tracks when we first saw it: the Pines and Needles Shawl.
The class includes a bundle of Ann’s exquisite hand-dyed yarn, if you choose to include it. We have three delectable colorways available. We think it’s some of the most subtle, brilliant yarn we’ve ever seen. Read all about it and sign up here.
Here We Go!
It’s finally here! The most popular knitalong of the MDK year, Bang Out a Sweater, kicks off next Friday, January 31, and runs through February. Yes, we’re going to knit an entire Bolin Cardigan during the shortest month of the year. Or not! The back of the pack is a jolly and somewhat crowded place for good knitting fun. Knit at your own pace, and have a ball.
Read all about the knitalong here, and sign up for the three-part workshop with the great Lorilee Beltman here. The workshop is optional, but three sessions with this extraordinary teacher is an incredible opportunity. Last year’s participants raved about the time we had.
As always with an MDK knitalong: all yarns are welcome. We’d love to have you with us.
Off to a Roaring Start
2025 is the year of a brand-new adventure: the MDK Society. The benefits of charter membership are many—and we will be adding more fun all year long. Members save 10 percent on our wonderful virtual workshops, and in the MDK Shop, throughout 2025.
What we’re most excited about: virtual events and hangouts for Society members. Each month we’ll put on a new edition of the Snippets Show, featuring special guests and coming to you via Zoom, plus knit nights, the MDK Lounge, and more. This is the knitting community we’ve dreamed about, and we hope you’ll join us.
Take a moment to sign up now and take advantage of our introductory membership price—which will go up this month. Thanks so much to everyone who’s signed up already. More fun ahead!
Meanwhile…
We had a big time on MDK this week.
Toile de Jouy and a dress dyed with arsenic—Franklin Habit’s latest letter from Paris made us dizzy about art and textiles.
In this corner…an adorable fuzzy animal. In the other corner…also an adorable fuzzy animal! Jillian Moreno on mohair versus alpaca.
You already have this wonder tool. It’s in the coat closet, and it’s going to make your knitting so happy.
Samantha Brunson gives her own version of Miranda Priestley’s cerulean monologue, in which a favorite skinny scarf pattern makes big waves in the fashion world.
In a changing world, we will always have knitting.

One great way, of course: join the MDK Society. And also, whenever you shop with MDK, sign up for a workshop, or share our content with others, you’re directly supporting the yarnmakers, artisans, teachers, and writers that we feature here. Thank you!
