A New, Glorious Workshop: Embroidery with Natalie Chanin

Here’s a date to put on your calendar: Wednesday, May 28. Just in time for the arrival of summertime.
Thanks to our friends at The School of Making, we’re thrilled to announce a class with the great Natalie Chanin that focuses on hand-stitching and embroidery.
Join us on May 28 for a three-hour virtual workshop with Natalie. Read all about it below, and sign up here.
Kay and I eagerly anticipate this class, even as we have been stitching with Natalie’s books and kits for many years. She inevitably teaches us something new every time we are with her. We hope you’ll join us for the sort of class that allows us all to slow down, create beauty, and embark on a whole new world of creative possibility.
Included in this experience:
Natalie’s superb teaching. Natalie is the founder of two groundbreaking companies: Alabama Chanin and The School of Making. For more two decades, she has been a visionary leader in the movement for sustainable fashion. She is also an unparalleled artisan and teacher of sewing, and the author of gorgeous and inspiring books. More than anything, we just love spending time with Natalie.

A complete kit of materials from The School of Making.

The groundbreaking book that will provide you a world of inspiration long after the class ends: The Geometry of Hand-Sewing. More than a hundred stitches, plus dot-grid stitching cards that make learning easy.

The virtual class is Wednesday, May 28. Just looking at the stitches on the cover of Natalie’s book gives me such a twingle of anticipation. Sign up here.
I actually bought this book after reading one of your posts about Natalie last year. I also bought 3 of the other books, including the one with the pattern CD. I got into hand sewing and embroidery as a kid, but never hand sewed clothing. After seeing pictures of the swing skirt I really want to make one for me, but I’ll have to grade the pattern to fit my plus size self. After I find somewhere to print it from the CD, that is.
Me, too! I went to a Staples and had them all printed out in one fell swoop. Totally doable. I’ve had to expand a couple, too – I appreciate that that particular book has some advice for doing so (and I’m holding out hope for a broader range of sizes in future!).
Hi Karen,
I suggest trying one of the FedEx office stores — or maybe an Office Depot/Staples spot for getting a print out of the CD pattern. Funny how fast technology changes, isn’t it?? I just finished my swing skirt and I love it. I enjoyed the stitching very, very much. Good luck!
I’m interested in this class but already own the book. Is there a different price for a non-book option?
Hi! We thought about this a lot. We include the book because it’s so vital to the class, and we didn’t want to take the risk that anyone in the class would not have the book or may have lost the grids that are in the book. It’s included in your class at less than cost, and if you already have it, we hope you’ll share it with a friend.
I also already have the book and would like to take this class
I also am interested in the workshop but already own the book. Thus, I too am interested in whether there could be a different price for those of us who don’t need to purchase the book.
Ditto — I’ve got the book, too. Is MDK a master influencer, or what????
After Natalie’s last class, I was so inspired that I got the book, too! Hope there could be an option for the class without the book.
I also own the book and would love to take the class but I do not really have anyone to gift the book to.
I, too, own the book and most of the supplies in the kit. I’d love to take the class if you offered it without the extras.
Easiest purchase ever! A salve for my serious case of NashFest FOMO.
So excited to learn from Natalie.
