Dear Kay,

I’ve been waiting and waiting for Serial to return, that podcast that is like no other.

Well, glory be: Season 3 is here.

Sarah Koenig is our narrator each season, telling the story of a legal case in all its complexity, over the course of ten or more episodes.

For Season 3, Sarah takes us to Cleveland, Ohio, as she bunkers down at the Cleveland Justice Center to follow not one but an entire year’s worth of legal cases—small ones, sometimes—as an exploration of the criminal justice system.

I’m one episode in, “A Bar Fight Walks into the Justice Center,” and Serial is as riveting as ever.

If you haven’t discovered Serial, you are in for such a ride.

Season 1: 12 riveting episodes that chronicle the case of a murder case reopened, fifteen years after the suspect was convicted.

Season 2: 11 riveting episodes (notice a pattern here? this stuff is RIVETING) digging deep into the story of an American soldier held captive by the Taliban in Afghanistan/Pakistan for five years. Was he a deserter? Should he face a court martial, after one of the longest times in captivity? I wrote about this humdinger here.

Love,

Ann

  • Just subscribed. Thanks

  • Episode three, whoa. My man grew up in East Cleveland, and he won’t listen to it with me… pretty powerful stuff. I grew up in rural Iowa- totally different worlds- so I’m finding this Serial series especially educative, and sadly fascinating.

  • Thanks for the tip. I was riveted to the first two Serials and didn’t even know there was a third.
I got hooked on the investigative reporting In The Dark podcast which reminded me of Serial.

  • It’s a excellent Podcast! Sarah Koenig is a fantastic narrator. Although I haven’t started listening it is on my to do list.

  • It looks fabulous.

  • I just started listening to Episode 3 and it is truly Riveting!! Can’t wait to hear what happens next. Thx for this post Ann

  • I love this podcast. Listened to the first couple of episodes of season 3 the other day while at work…riveting and so interesting. Trying to get my daughter, who is taking a criminal justice class to listen!

  • Just listened to Episode 1, right after listening to the Hidden Brain podcast about eugenics. Lots to think about …
