I’m jumping the gun a little here. The Bunchalong is not yet to the halfway point (the last, and grand, prize winner will be announced on December 21), but it’s in full, glorious flow, and gosh darn it, we’re excited.

What is the Bunchalong? It’s a vaguely holiday-ish knitalong in which knitters are knitting bunches and batches and piles of the clever, more-ish designs by Thea Colman for MDK Field Guide No. 8:  Merry Making. None of them takes very long, and all of them are in delectable colors and fibers, so it’s a total yarn party.

To keep the inspirational photos and general joy flowing, every week one Bunchalonger wins a $50 gift certificate to the MDK Shop. The fifth winner will be announced on Monday. (Details to enter are here.)

You can find fellow Bunchalong travelers in three places: the MDK Lounge, Instagram, and on Ravelry. All three venues are equally jolly, so it’s fielder’s—I mean knitter’s—choice, or you can flit around all three if you are a social butterfly.

Let’s review our winners so far, shall we?

Week 1

We cannot resist a birthday-cake funfetti colorway. We found these two Slip-Stitch Caps on Clare Lakewood’s Ravelry page, but she’s also on Instagram as

Week 2

Over in the MDK Lounge, Debi Bukko blew our minds by expanding the Stranded Diamonds Hat into a handknit layette—including sweaters—for twins. Way to overachieve, Debi!

Week 3

Who’s having more fun with the Bunchalong (and life) than Megan Minier? We cannot do justice to her Missy Elliott-soundtracked video, so you will have to click over to Megan’s Instagram to watch it. A blast of joy, featuring Megan’s flipped-and-reversed version of Thea Colman’s Appleseed Mitts. (Also, we applaud—and share—Megan’s dedication to Historical Hair Preservation. If the Good Lord didn’t intend for our locks to remain the same color as when we were teens, how do you explain aluminum foil?)

Week 4

We found last week’s winner, Angela, in the MDK Lounge. She probably didn’t know our soft spot for Decorative Gourd Season—or did she? Her richly autumnal, cinematic Appleseed Mitts would’ve won, regardless.

What’s Next?

The Bunchalong has yet to anoint a Chalice Cowl, or a set of Appleseed Coasters. For an excellent bird’s eye view of the ongoing fun, check out the #mdkbunchalong hashtag on Instagram. It’s an ever-higher pile of delight. See you in the Lounge!
