Jill Draper’s yarns have been favorites of ours since Day 1 here at MDK. Jill has a rare way with color, and we admire her commitment to sourcing American fibers and developing yarns with thought and care.

Also: this yarn is a dream to knit with.

So let’s take a look at designs that let these yarns shine. (Pattern names are links to the Ravelry page.)

Santa Fe by Isabell Kraemer

Isabell Kraemer loves Mohonk so much that she picked it for her Petula Pullover in MDK Field Guide No. 10: Downtown. Here’s another winner, Santa Fe. Is it a shrug? A bolero? Whatever it is, it’s adorable.

It calls for 3 (3, 4, 4, 4, 4) skeins, shown in color Barnsides.

Edradour by Thea Colman

“Cozy and lofty,” Thea says of her design. Absolutely. An intuitive, easy wrap.

Rail Trail by Kristen TenDyke

Raglan sleeves and joyous colorwork. The stripeyness is really great.

Farm-to-Skein Colorwork Throw by Lori Versaci

Lori has a great way with sequence knitting, one of our favorite hypnotic kinds of knitting.

Color Explosion Throw by Cecelia Campochiaro

With extremely little planning, I grabbed skeins of Mohonk Light in every color available to me and knitted up a marled throw that was a joyride for every single stitch.

Eleven skeins of Mohonk Light is a lot. But then, this was the most fun I’ve had in a long time. Read all about this odyssey here.

Bradford Road by Kristen Kapur

This makes me happy every time I see it. Kristen combines miters and colors in such a cool way.

Taughannock by Laura Nelkin

Dropping stitches is that low-stakes knitterly version of bungee jumping.

Be sure to head over to our MDK Gems celebration to take advantage of our free ebook of Field Guide No. 10: Downtown, starring two Isabell Kraemer beauties.

  • As a newer knitter (that’s a step above absolute beginner, yes?), I like the look of the Santa Fe shrug!

  • Such a surprise to suddenly come upon a photo of Taughannock Falls, which is 15 minutes from our home, in my morning read! (That’s not photo-shopped, it’s the view from the overlook, probably in early October. FYI Ann: Ravens & Peregrine falcons nest there!) Looks like a fun knit, thanks for spotlighting it.

    • Tess, I live in Western New York and have been to Taughannock Falls many times (once during a major rainfall that flooded out most of the roads)! It’s so beautiful there. Can’t wait to make the drive down once the leaves start to turn.

  • I want it all – as the song says – and I want it now…sigh…just when I SWORE I wasn’t going to buy anymore yarn or start another project until…aw, who am I kidding?! Gorgeous colorways and patterns!
