Dear Everybody,

Keeping a secret is hard! It’s a great relief to be able to share a bit of wonderful news that we’ve been sitting on lo these many months: the name of the designer of our next MDK Field Guide.

But First: A Few Facts About the Designer of MDK Field Guide No. 11

She is a prolific independent designer, with patterns appearing on Ravelry since…well, since Ravelry began. She’s a real go-getter.

Her blog, Knit & Tonic, has been making us laugh and showing us cool things for as long as we can remember.

Her Custom Knits books inspire knitters all over the world by teaching them how to improvise and make a design their own.

Her Up, Down, All Around books have shaken up the concept of “stitch dictionary” and transformed it from the venerable black-and-white manual of yore to a font of inspiration, beauty, and adventure.

Who is this wonder knitter?

Wendy Bernard!

With this tantalizing tidbit of information, maybe you’re trying to guess the theme of the Field Guide. We’re not telling! But we can promise that Wendy’s flair for customization and her insistence on a fun knitting experience will be on full display.

In this Field Guide, Wendy might get you to knit a thing you’ve never knit before.

Or maybe, she’ll teach you a fresh way of thinking about a thing you’ve been knitting forever.

It’s a puzzler, right?

Field Guide No. 11 launches in just 10 days, on Friday, June 14. We can’t wait to share the theme, the yarns, the whole ball of yarn.

It’s going to be so fun.

If Wendy Bernard’s name is new to you, you’re in for a good time. She’s a marvelous teacher and thinker about how to make knits, and knitting, the way you want it to be, just for you.

If you’re already a Wendy Bernard fan, keep your shirt on. Next Friday will be here before we know it.

Love,

Ann and Kay

  • I took an online class when your 2018 March Mayhem inspired me to learn how to make a top down seamless sweater. The class I took was My First Seamless Sweater with Wendy Bernard. It was like she was sitting there with me through the entire project. She is such a good teacher I now have the confidence to go into this whole new knitting world.

    • This is high praise indeed. I am really looking forward to this field guide.

  • Wendy’s was one of the first blogs (along with MDK and Yarn Harlot) that I followed, back in maybe 2005ish???? I can’t wait to see her field guide!

  • YIPPPEEEE! I can hardly wait! These wonderful little books are my favorite knitting collection! I love them!

  • What a nice surprise! I also have several of her books and was a big fan of her blog as well while she was still writing regularly – but is now spreading her wings to all kinds of things, just like you guys. Looking forward to this Field Guide.

  • I have a question about the needle size in this field guide. US size 2 is specified as 2.5 mm, but my size 2 needles are 2.75 mm. Which is correct? Thanks!
