Dear friends,

In our never-ending quest to bring you the fun in knitting, we have breaking news.

We’re delighted to announce that we will be returning to Knit Stars for its 10th anniversary season.

What Is Knit Stars?

Knit Stars is a virtual knitting experience unlike any other. Knit Stars makes it possible for you to join a weeks-long online adventure in learning and inspiration.

It will take place this November, during the Golden Season of Knitting.

It’s 15 full-length masterclasses with 15 teachers and designers—10 in knitting, and 5 in crochet—who are working at the absolute top of their game.

All online. All available forever.

All available to you without the need to travel, without the expense of a hotel—but with in-depth teaching and live chats that will make for a rich experience of learning and inspiration.

Shelley Brander is the brain behind Knit Stars. Her professional production team travels to teachers’ homes and studios all over the world to create these online classes. So Knit Stars is basically a giant field trip, in which we virtually venture outside the classroom and really get to know the teachers—and each other. The production values are top notch—they have to be seen to be believed.

From watching nine previous seasons, we know that these are rich, immersive classes that provide a unique window into each teacher’s world and point of view.

What Will We Be Teaching?

There is one knitting technique that we are known for, not because we invented it, but because we have loved it so hard and so well, and we have explored it so deeply, and—let’s face it—so loudly.

Log cabin knitting.

At this point we have been singing the praises of log cabin knitting for over twenty years.

We have created log cabin blankets, log cabin wraps, log cabin dishcloths, even log cabin sweaters—and we have been happy all the way. There is something about the log cabin motif—ancient and modern at the same time—that conveys deep meaning and makes it an heirloom.

Learning log cabin knitting changed our lives. It became a spiritual practice for us both.

Log cabin has never let us down when we’ve needed simple, soulful knitting—or rowdy, joyful color play.

Log cabin knitting taught us about color, and about design. It taught us how knitting works—and what knitting is for.

We want to share everything we’ve learned and loved about log cabin knitting with you.

So now you know why we’ve been knitting so many log cabins lately!

Meet Our Fellow Teachers

It’s a gang of talented teachers and designers we admire so much.

We’ve published their designs and writing on MDK. We’ve reviewed their brilliant books. We’ve knitted their patterns. They’re all people we want to learn from ourselves, so we’ll be tuning in as closely as you will.

How Will the Classes Work?

Starting in November, Knit Stars unfolds over several weeks. Every few days, a new class will appear on the Knit Stars site, where you’ll be enrolled.

You’ll be able to watch classes on your computer, your phone, your iPad—at any time of the day, and at your own pace. You’ll have access to the classes and resources (including patterns and information downloads) forever, so you can return anytime to watch them. It’s immersive, engrossing, and fun.

Why Enroll Now?

There’s a special early bird rate available right now—but only for nine days, through Tuesday, April 22. Use the coupon code SEASONX to save an additional $50 off the early bird price when you sign up here.

How to Enroll?

You’ll find all the details on our enrollment page by clicking here. This is our affiliate link, which means that your order via this link supports us at MDK.

Will There Be Yarn?

Absolutely. Knit Stars is offering exclusive special yarns and kits to those enrolled in Knit Stars—including special bundles of MDK’s own exclusive yarn, Jane, in two log cabin-friendly colorways: the Warm 6 and the Cool 5.

In Conclusion…

We’ve never taught an online class with anyone but Knit Stars. In 2018, we had a blast sharing our “Secrets to Knitting Happiness” in Knit Stars Season 3, which was generously received by knitters, and introduced us to wonderful people who are still part of the MDK community today.

Knit Stars is something special: beautiful to watch, combining clear instruction with terrific production values. We’re thrilled to be a part of it.

We’re full of ideas for what we’ll share in our class. It’s going to be a log cabin course for the ages, and we hope you’ll join us.

Love,

Ann and Kay

PS Here’s the link for enrolling. Early bird pricing runs through Tuesday, April 22. Remember: use the code SEASONX to save $50.

    • OK that totally makes my day, Robyn. Thank you for sticking around!

  • Wow, congratulations.Well I’m sitting here almost in tears. Maybe I am in tears. I don’t remember how I found your books and webpage, but you’re how I found Knitstars. And I am eternally grateful for that and this is so exciting because I’ll be doing it with all the other matters at the same time. Not that it wasn’t fun to do it later, but this is special

    • The knitting world is such a special place—love that you’ll be along for the fun this fall.

  • Has the knitstars site crashed? There a “host error” each time I’ve tried to open it with and without your link.

  • When I click the red ‘here’ or the red ‘Here’s the link for enrolling’, it takes me to an error page. I definitely want to enroll.

    • It seems like the Knit Stars website is under a bit of stress at the moment, but should resolve soon. They’re like Taylor Swift this morning!

      • That’s a good thing. Glad to hear.

      • I got it to work now, looking forward to this new season!

  • Congratulations to Ann and Kay for the knit stars news ! I’ve done All 10 seasons and love it. What an honor to be the first “ stars” to shine again !

    • Wow Cynthia! I’m so impressed–that is a LOT of inspiration and learning. I think this season is going to be quite amazing. And yes–we’re thrilled to be back at this.

    • Thank you Cynthia! It feels extra great this time because we have such confidence based on last time that our class is in fantastic hands.

  • This is the Best morning news! Congrats on being the first returning guests on Knit Stars. And it’s such a big deal that we can’t even get into their website this morning to order yarn! Love both of you and love log cabin knitting (and quilting). See you at Shakerag!

    • Ohhhhh Shakerag . . . counting the days! It’s gonna be so fun.

  • I’m receiving the same error notice. I try later.

  • I did a temperature blanket using the log cabin recipe. It is still one of my favorite pieces.

    • I started one inspired by yours and got *maybe* into February? I will get there on eday! It deserves to be in the Victoria and Albert Museum, truly!

  • You were my gateway to knit stars last time. I was never sure if it was a scam or not. Glad you will be back with this strong crew.

  • So cool that you will be back for more! I signed up super early bird and have been dying to know who the stars would be.

    • Way to be ON IT! It was really hard to keep this all a secret.

  • Very exciting! I still have your book with log cabin knits. I’ve had Knit Stars since the beginning and this season looks great!

  • Done! This will be fun. So many wonderful artists to learn from!

    • It really is a bounteous cornucopia smorgasboard country kitchen buffet of teachers.

PS I enjoyed Nash Yarn Fest VIP trip! 😉

    • Becky! I’m so glad to hear it–you all were such a joy to have here in Nashville. I hope you’ll be back soon. April 17-18, 2026 is the next Nash Yarn Fest–we’re already scheming and dreaming about it.

  • Nice end to a nice day… it took most of the day to finally be able to use the MDK link to sign up for season 10 and there was Kay in full Bolin splendor. It was your posts about the Bolin process (before Lorilee’s class) that “inspired” me to jump in and I LOVED knitting it. So, how could I refuse a masterclass with Kay and Ann, Franklin, Jen and a few new-to-me faces. Thanks ladies, so looking forward to Log Cabin.

    • Thank you for your patience, Nancy! I think the Knit Stars server didn’t know what it was about to experience. . .
