Last weekend at the Wool & Folk show, we had a swell time watching folks figure out their color combos for the Seedling Beanie, Kirsten Kapur’s new topper. There was a lot of deep study of skeins of Atlas, a fair amount of squinting.

Turns out, it’s hard to go wrong. But wow, do people have strong opinions. We love that.

Kirsten’s combinations in the gallery above include Leek + Peat, Merlot + Mallard, Natural + Citron, Shale + Seaglass, and Tutu + Truffle.

Here’s Pebble and Truffle.

It’s the sort of quick knit that makes for a cute holiday gift. Kay’s getting ready to knit multiples of this. She gets hat fever around this time of year, so I’m curious to see what combos she ends up with.

A Giveaway!

The prize? Two skeins of Atlas—winner’s choice of colors—and a copy of Seedling Beanie direct to your Ravelry account.

  • My new winter coat is deep navy so I’m going with Lapis and Skyline.

  • Wintergreen and navy!

  • Pear and Seaglass!

  • Cork and cedar!

  • Clementine and navy-a little school spirit for my 9th grader’s new high school. I could never wear a sweatshirt to show off my Poly pride. She would be mortified…but a hat in the school’s colors would be a subtle way to do it…

  • Mallard and Skyline would pair nicely with my favorite scarf. (Whenever you ask what color of Atlas for X, my answer always includes Mallard!)

  • Well what color do I not like?!? But lapis is so pretty

  • Natural and mallard

  • Hard to choose but feeling that Barn Red & Natural would be a great combination!

  • Mlalllard land Truffle

  • How odd! I’ve just come back from Rhinebeck with a bagful of cashmere in a combination of colors suspiciously like MERLOT AND MALLARD. That’s going to become a colorwork cowl for my stepdaughter, but I’d like to make a hat for myself in the similar Atlas colors. I think this rich, jewel-like combination is going to be my latest color obsession, replacing purple/green, which is about to be sent into honorable retirement.

  • I’ve already bought a skein each of merlot and mallard. But I would also like to try tutu and navy.

  • Truffle and tutu

  • Citron and lapis!

  • Natural and truffle, so it would match any coat I happened to be wearing.

  • Lovely hat! Truffle because my coat is black and Cork because I want some warmth with the Truffle. I love your Skyline, but it’s too cold with the Truffle. This would also look pretty good with my off white jacket and my black raincoat. (Coat colours reflect fashion tyranny: it’s what was available in the last 2-3 years at an affordable price.)

  • Peat & Mouse
    Lapis & Truffle
