New year, new knitter!
We’ve got a brand-new class that will set up all your 2025 projects for glory.
It’s Beginnings and Endings: Virtual Workshop with Patty Lyons.
Join us on January 10, 2025—two weeks from today!—for a two-hour session that will make your knitting projects look good coming—and going.
Patty Lyons is one of the most acclaimed and beloved knitting teachers in the world, famous for filling her workshops with a-ha moments, and for teaching the “how” and “why” of the great tips that will improve your knitting immeasurably.
Our last workshop with Patty was a complete hit. Here’s are a few snippets from the Patty fan mail we received:
—I loved the knitting hacks class and would sign up for another! It is absolutely wonderful that attendees of the class are able to access the video recording to review it and really cement in all that they learned. Definitely a 10 out of a 10!!
—Best class ever! Thanks for all you do at MDK!
—I was amazed by the technology in Patty’s class. Seeing Patty AND her hands, the white board, and her quick response to all the messages in the chat. I crave the “why” in addition to the “how” and Patty did a stellar job of explaining and demonstrating. THANK YOU!!
—The event was “perfect” in all respects. I would like to do another class with Patty.
In short, we’ve got a good feeling about this one! Register now and get ready for a wonderful experience with one of the knitting world’s most sought-after teachers.
Details
Date: Friday, January 10, 2025
Time: Noon-2 p.m. Eastern time
Location: Zoom. This is a virtual event. It will be recorded, and all participants will receive a link to the video recording after the class.
What Will We Learn?
How to start and end a knitting project are important decisions. Patty will dig into the practice swatches from her brand-new book: Patty’s Knitting Bag of Tricks: The Official Workbook—and show us brilliant ways to start and end. The little light bulbs in our brains will be popping!
We will learn how to pair cast-ons and bind-offs that look great together. We will go over the best-looking cast-ons and bind offs for lace, rib, and more. We will also fix some problems and bust some myths, and learn the perfect jogless start and end to working in the round—no more annoying nubbin at the end!
About Patty
Based in the USA and in demand all over the world, Patty teaches at guilds, retreats, and knitting shows. If Patty is new to you, dive into her long-running Ask Patty series on MDK; it’s a treasure trove of hacks and habits to level up your knitting.
Patty’s two latest books are the instant classic Patty Lyons’ Knitting Bag of Tricks. External Link. Opens in new window., now in its fourth (!) printing, and its brand-new companion: Patty Lyons’ Knitting Bag of Tricks: The Official Workbook. . External Link. Opens in new window. The books are not required for the workshop, but we highly recommend for their solid-gold knitting wisdom.
You can find Patty on the regular at her website and on Ravelry and YouTube.
Most important is the reason Patty is such a sought-after a teacher: she delivers—oh boy does she deliver! MDK readers’ response to Patty’s first virtual class with us was so phenomenal that we had to bring her back—or face dire consequences!
What You’ll Need
There is no kit with this workshop, and you’re more than welcome to simply tune in and soak up the learning as Patty dishes it out. The workshop will be recorded, so you can watch it again, needles in hand, whenever you like.
To work along with Patty, there’s a short list of supplies here.
Questions and Answers
How will I get the Zoom link? When you purchase the workshop, your order confirmation email will contain a link to a PDF with the Zoom link. Save it so you’ll have it on the day of the workshop!
What level of knitting experience is required for this workshop? Only basic skills are needed to get a lot out of this workshop: You will need to know how to knit, purl, bind off, and work a long tail cast on in slingshot position. You can review that long tail cast on with Patty here. External Link. Opens in new window..
How should I get ready for the workshop? Gather the things you’ll need above and do the tiny bit of homework. We will send out a reminder email the morning of the event with the Zoom link.
What’s the format? With Patty’s instruction and an overhead camera focused on her hands, we’ll learn the techniques as described above. Participant mics will be muted most of the time due to the size of the group, but we hope you’ll ask questions in the chat, which we’ll monitor constantly during the workshop and answer as possible during the workshop.
What if I want to work at my own pace? That’s perfectly fine. After the event, participants will receive a link to the video recording to watch and re-watch at your convenience. The recording will be available to participants indefinitely, but we highly recommend that you watch it as soon as you can—this is good stuff!
We’re looking forward to Patty’s world of wonder on January 10, and hope you’ll be there too! Register here.

What is the name of the sweater that she is wearing? Is it one of her patterns?
Hi there. It’s not an MDK pattern, so I’m just guessing…but it looks like this one of hers.
