Dear everybody,
Welcome to a weekend of remembering and celebrating the creative spirit and work of Kathreen Ricketson.
For those just joining us, we are trying very hard to make some lemonade here out of the sourest lemons imaginable.
Here’s what happened last week. One of the online world’s brightest spirits has died, along with her husband Rob, leaving two young children behind.
We’ll spend the next few days sharing favorite Whip Up posts and encouraging you to join in by sharing your favorites, too. And we hope you’ll take a minute to send along a PayPal contribution to the education fund for Kathreen and Rob’s children, Otilija and Orlando.
I think my favorite Whip Up post has to be The Whip Up Manifesto. I remember reading this years ago–Kathreen was an early agitator for slowness, long before it became hip to be slow. I was knocked out by her flat-out declaration of what ought to be.
Whip Up is for the slow movement, slow cooking, slow living, slow schooling, slow sundays, slowly enjoying life. By living life out of the fast lane we will hopefully notice more, learn more, enjoy our children, friends and family, enjoy our time doing the things we love.

Some people say Whip Up should be against frilled toilet roll holders, but I say if they are made with love then why the hell not eh!

My husband just started making our bread by hand. He is enjoying it thoroughly and we are all healthier from the fruits of his labors. It sounds like Kathreen was a person I would like to have known. What a tragedy.
