Announcing! The Designer for Field Guide No. 21
Dear everybody,
On this fine May morning, we are thrilled to reveal the designer who will be the star of the next MDK Field Guide.
Nancy Marchant.
It’s one of our favorite bits of knitting lore: how Nancy Marchant became fascinated with an intriguing stitch pattern she saw on a passer-by’s sweater in Amsterdam. Her curiosity led her to research, restore, and reinvigorate brioche stitch for modern knitters.
Now known to knitters all over the world as the queen of brioche, Nancy has explored and taught the technique for decades. Through her books and designs, Nancy has introduced both designers and knitters to the satisfying cleverness and cushy fabrics of brioche knitting.
We have admired her work for a long time, and each passing encounter with Nancy over the years made us want to know her better. So of course, when we decided it was high time the two of us learned brioche, we turned to Nancy.
Now, to our immense joy, we all will have the chance to knit and explore with Nancy in Field Guide No. 21, launching June 3.
If you’ve already subscribed to the 2022 Field Guide series, thank you! You will receive Field Guide No. 21 ahead of the launch date, along with a subscriber-exclusive coupon code for the MDK Shop. If you’d like to be among the first to receive Field Guide No. 21, and also receive the other two Field Guides of 2022, subscribe right here.
Nancy is going to take us on a journey to a whole new world of texture and color. We cannot wait to brioche with you. Let’s go!
Love,
Ann and Kay
Omg, what a get! I will definitely be ordering this issue, and thankfully the wait won’t be too long.
Oh my! I am fastening my seat belt in readiness for this journey!
WoooHoooo! Could not be more excited for this episode! Love, love, love Nancy Marchant!
This is so exciting! I’ve always wanted to learn this skill set, but never made it a priority. I always look forward to the next Field Guide, but this one really piqued my interest!
This Field Guide will be exciting and challenging – two factors knitters love! Hopefully the patterns will use Atlas…..
now I need to learn brioche stitch!
So excited to know brioche will be coming soon. Thank you, MDK, and Nancy Marchant! Brioche has been on my bucket list for awhile.
It’s on my knitting bucket list the past 2 years, it’s time to brioche!
I can’t tell you how excited I am!! Nancy is one if my absolute favourite designers…. I need to hurry up and finish some stuff here because I know I will want to cast on all of this Field Guide!
I can’t wait! Brioche is on my list of techniques to learn!!
I ‘ve been meaning to learn this technique, but keep finding one after another must- do- next project…. this will be the inspiration I have needed. Thanks!
Wow! What a wish come true! I took a brioche class a while ago and came away totally puzzled. I signed up for Party Lyons’ class recently and I am actually making progress. I was JUST thinking that it was funny that MDK didn’t have a brioche adventure too. Can’t wait to see what you will be enticing us with!!
I’m in Patty’s class too, Lisa! Perfect timing!
I’m taking the Patty Lyons class also. I learned from Nancy Marchant on Craftsy but the learning curve is high for me, so I am double dipping. I think the fabric is fascinating and I always want to have a brioche project going (along with a sock, and a large, long-term project too). Excited about this Field Guide!
Haha..I meant Patty, but I bet she does not mind me calling her Party!!!
Perfect timing! Just completed two brioche classes at my LYS, so I am definitely in a brioche state of mind. Nancy’s designs are the best.
I love brioche and the fabric it creates! Nancy takes it to a whole new level and is a wonderful teacher. I’m very excited to be a subscriber!
So much fun ahead! When will #21 be released?
The official on-sale date is June 3; subscriber copies go out early meaning very soon!
Like most of us, I learned to brioche from Nancy in a Craftsy class. The projects in that class are just wonderful. Can’t wait to see see what she has in store for us with this field guide. Hooray!
So looking forward to adding brioche to my knitting techniques!
What is Nancy Marchant wearing in this picture? It looks stunning, so does she!
Her sweater is so cool, it looks covered in storm troopers. Now I’ll never un-see it.
I couldn’t see a pattern like this in her Ravelry designs, but it looks like it might be a cardigan modification of this free pattern: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/noordermarkt-tunic
Yay, yay, YAY!! I’m a baby brioche-er and can’t wait to learn more! I managed to learn as motivated to knit Joji Locatelli’s Newspaper Sweater and am delighted to have this opportunity to learn from the best with my MDK tribe.
I love brioche, and I’m looking forward to this field guide!
Very exciting! I have been watching her Craftsy class and slowly trying to learn brioche.
Is there a way to check to see if my subscription is still active?
Hi Debbie, I’ll check and email you.
Kay
So excited !
Hooray, for #21. I keep putting off learning Brioche, now I won’t. Can you tell us what yarn to gather in inticipation (ie)?
VERY EXCITED! (Yes, I yelled.)
Is there a pattern for that jacket? Congrats on this. Should be a great one!
Love her work but disappointed you did not go with a newer upcoming designer. Plus Brioche knitting is like a exclusive club, it’s complicated and some of us just don’t get in…
I have found that whenever MDK launches a new field guide, they provide a lot of resources to help all of us knitters understand the patterns and the process.
OMG I’m so excited! I’m working through Brioche Building Blocks – Patty Lyons’s online KAL – right now and look forward to applying that knowledge to projects from the next field guide!!
I’ve tried to learn Brioche and it was not fun for me at the time, but I am not one to give up, so I hope this will be my chance to re-learn 😉
I had a similar feeling about my early forays in brioche, years ago, but thanks to Nancy I’m a happy junior briocher now!
Exciting news! I love the glorious squooshiness of brioche knitting 🙂
Score!!!! Can’t wait for mine.
Is the jacket she’s wearing in this post photo made using brioche stitch? I think of it as looking like extra squishy ribbing. I’d love to know what stitch pattern that jacket fabric is…
OMG!!! This is gonna be a must have!!!
I’m SO excited about this Field Guide!!! I’ve been wanting to learn brioche for some time now, but haven’t quite gotten around to taking the plunge. I know THIS will get me going!!
Yay!! Very exciting. Glad I’m a subscriber so I’ll get #21 asap!
Double exciting! Exciting because Nancy and also exciting not actually a zombie animated toy. Maybe I live with a 14 year old boy. But in my case that also means I don’t live with a screaming baby anymore, and I could probably face some brioche!
Woo hoo! I am learning how to brioche with Patty Lyons right now. By the time I get the Field Guide I should have the basics down.
Excellent choice!
Looked thru my e-copy today, and promptly ordered materials for 2 projects! But is the green hat being worn by one of the models a handknit — and if so, can you share the pattern?
Received mine today and it was beautiful! Unfortunately my dog chewed it up before I could spend much time with it. He’s an older boy and is apparently constantly hungry frim the prednisone he’s taking for polyarthritis. Thank goodness for the downloadable version!
I love brioche but could not go beyond the 2- color basics. Nancy’s brioche book is an amazing compendium of everything you can do with brioche but I need hand holding to get ahead!
Back at the first Vogue Knitting Live (I was so lucky!) I got to take a brioche class with Nancy Marchant and after seeing her designs and samples felt that I was on the cusp of something really special. And brioche has indeed become quite a trend. Nancy was articulate and inspiring and her designs are now even more breathtaking. So looking forward to see what she has come up with.
