Dear Kay,
Oh lordy what a send-off yesterday for George Jones. People camped out all night to get into the Opry House. The interviews with the fans in line were not exactly hard-hitting news.
Reporter: “Why are you here today?”
Fan: “To pay my respects to George Jones.”
Reporter: “How long have you been here?”
Fan: “Drove from West Virginia. Got here last night.”
Reporter [nodding earnestly]: “You’re a fan?”
Fan [incredulous expression]: “Uh. Yeah.”
Reporter: “OK back to you, Jim.”
I honestly don’t know if anybody can handle this, but here are the irresistible Vince Gill and the peerless Patty Loveless, offering up Vince’s classic “Go Rest High on That Mountain.”
That’s Garth and Trisha in the crowd, standing, toward the end. A funeral with standing ovations is so Nashville.
Love,
Ann
Wonderful. Thank you for sharing this.
Poor Vince Gill … he barely made it through that.
Just lovely. Thank you for sharing it.
Well, my goodness. Just boohooing at my desk here and am glad I am home. I have been a Vince Gill fan since his Pure Prairie League days and that is one of my favorite songs. How he pours his emotions into his guitar! Thank you, so much, for sharing that.
So touching to see how moved Vince was! I’m sitting at my computer crying now too. I’ve seen both Vince and Patty in concert and love them both. Thanks for sharing!
Wow, thanks for sharing. I haven’t listened to country music in a while, and don’t really respect some of the stances the community takes on political things, but my family hails from the south and has always loved country music. It’s amazing and enviable, the love and respect that the community has for its own.

Thank you, thank you. Wonderful
So many thanks for sharing. I’ve been a fan of country music for over 60 years – you were right, this was pretty hard, but so kind of you to share.
Ok here’s the one for next year’s Scene “You are so Nashville if…” you knew that channel 2 was preempting The View and set your DVR for the funeral and watched it last night at home on your couch with a box of kleenex in hand. I did fine on Tanya Tucker. The Oaks didn’t raise a tear. But when Vince and Patty got up there and he lost it, I did too. He was the first that made me cry but not the only one. Brad Paisley nervously strummed his guitar while he told his story about his first horse and George’s reaction and those days talking out in the field with him. Secret stories of fond memories. They all shared their hearts. It was so Nashville pure and honest like country is supposed to be. I’m so glad I live in a place like this.
Oh, Ann, thank you so much for posting that clip. I love the song, yet there was something particularly moving about watching Vince Gill struggle to get through it. A fine tribute. We should all be so lucky.
Such a moving performance. I’m bawling like a child here. Thanks for this.
Thank you for sharing the link. I’m at work and was tearing up watching Vince Gill. The emotions he and Patty put into that song could be felt through the music. One of many wonderful tributes to George Jones, I imagine.
So beautiful and moving. What a lovely tribute. Thank you for sharing it.
Wow! Beautiful. Meaningful. Thanks
That was so touching. Thanks for sharing it.
Thank you, Ann. That was beautiful!
Thank you for sharing that. Very touching tribute!
That song brings back lovely memories for me, and now I have another one. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing this. I just love Vince Gill and I think he definitely needed a hug.
Ann.
You lay CRYING Vince Gill on me? Really.
Really?
The day is completely shot. I adore that man. What a beautiful moment in the world.
xoxoox Kay
thank you
Thank you so much! I love this song and like Vince Gill but Patty still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up!
I saw this somewhere else, and am not usually a country music fan, but this, this is beautiful. I love this song/hymn. And a standing ovation? Wow. At a funeral? Double wow.
Thank you for posting the video — those two are the best voices ever — seeing Vince get choked up was very touching.
Thank you for posting the video. What a lovely tribute by the best two singers ever.
