on their Fringe and Friends Log Cabin Knitalong projects.

Maybe you just haven’t got the right project.

We’re here to help.

To encourage you to take the gigantic leap into the Logalong, we’re holding a giveaway so stupendous that we are running out of adjectives.

Three winners will be drawn at random. Each winner will receive one of the following log cabin yarn kits, plus a copy of MDK Field Guide No. 4: Log Cabin, which explains it all for you.

The three kits:

LEARN the techniques with the Log Cabin Cloths Kit, with Rowan Handknit Cotton. Adjective: Cottonlicious.

GROOVE with the Ninepatch Blanket Kit, a whopping 15 skeins of Berroco Ultra Alpaca, 50/50 wool and alpaca. Adjective: Drapeous.

SOAR with the Sommerfeld Shawl Kit, featuring four skeins of Neighborhood Fiber Co.’s silk/mohair Loft. Adjective: Lofty. (OK, that was easy.)

To enter, two steps:

  1. Follow Modern Daily Knitting on Instagram, here.
  2. Sign up for our Pulitzer-worthy Saturday newsletter, Snippets, here.

If you already follow MDK on Insta and subscribe to Snippets, you’ll be included in all three random drawings.

Deadline for entries: Sunday, February 4, midnight Pacific time. The three winners will be contacted via email, and we’ll announce the glorious news once we’ve heard back from them.

Wishing you all glorious log cabin adventures. If you just can’t wait to win a kit, we’ll happily send one to you if you order one up from the MDK Shop.

And finally, not required, but feel free to leave a comment with something that’s making you happy today.

  • I’m knitting at the Tower of London today in that kind of weak bluey sunshine that means the English spring is coming. Hurray!

  • I am happy because I am working on three projects for my knitting classes and I am caught up on my homework for all three of them. This means I can work on other things… like one of the 35 or so WIPs lounging around the house.

    • After a long weekend of ‘start gathering tax documents,’ I can get back to knitting again. Ahhhhhhh!!

      • Knit on, my sister… KNIT ON!!!!

  • YOU! MDK, you made me happy today. And the fact that I finally figured it out how to fill in-between the motifs of the dress I want to complete before Valentine’s Day. Its for my lovely daughter. This dress would just make her look lovelier.

  • I am smiling because I spent the weekend with my son and 3 1/2 year old grandson. We enjoyed a warm sunny day at the Metro Richmond zoo, where I was taken on a tour of favorite animals by the youngster. The rest of the weekend was spent being seriously silly!

  • OK, I’ve been Snippet-ized since you debuted the new blog. As to your other requirement, I think Instagram hates me. I can manage email accounts, Facebook, and Ravelry (and other Interweb thingies) without any trouble, but keep getting the error message at the ig sign in prompt. Not really your problem, but does *trying* to sign up for Instagram count for anything?

    • Agreed. I have enough social media already. A BIG NO to Instagram!

  • I’m knitting Millefiori Vest for my sister

    • OOOH, squishy, yarny goodness! 🙂

  • Working on my first top down sweatersince the great Stopover knitalong. The Malabrigo Rios goes very well with daughters favorite jacket so I suspect it will be gifted to her. Next project will be a baby blanket for a dear friend’s first grandchild and it will be a log cabin style.

  • THIS is making me happy today! It’s raining, it’s cold, snow may be on the way… great knitting weather. Hope I win! Thank you for the giveaway!!

  • Thinking about knitting. Reading about knitting. Looking at knitting. And a cup of coffee.

  • Thx for the giveaway! This morning I’m happy because of: beautiful yarn, log cabin-ing, and my new puppy Phoebe!

    • New puppy and beautiful yarn for the win! I would love to see a picture of the yarn and of Phoebe…

  • Colorwork in the Florida Keys!

  • I am happy because after being on a knitting break for five years I am now back in full swing. Hats, dishcloths, and socks… so far.

    • Welcome back to the fold, my knitting sister! Cast on and knit with joy!

    • That’s great news! You go girl!

  • Finding out that you are holding a giveaway makes me happy on this cold Monday morning! So happy to be knitting and living seeing all of the logalong projects on MDK and Instagram.

  • I’m happy because instead of complaining about winter, we’re 1. Doing the annual winter carnival in St. Paul with an ice palace, and 2. Hosting a small, little-known sporting event called the SuperBowl in Minneapolis.

    Wear warm Knits, visitors!

    • Dear Minneapolis – I beg you to forgive all the Eagles fans who may behave badly. I hail from Philly, but I just want the boys to play to their potential and for the world to ignore the bad behavior of the “fans.” I will be dying my hair green in solidarity for the boys, and knitting on my green shawl… but I won’t condone bad behavior. I just can’t help that our fans forget allllllll of their manner afield.

  • I am happy that I finally decided on what hand knitted gift to make for my BFF’s birthday…and equally happy to know that she will not mind receiving it after her birthday (in two days time!).

  • Knitting makes me happy! Winning one of these kits would make me really happy!

  • MDK giveaways make me happy. But I never win.

  • I am about to start planning a single color log cabin blanket. Inspired by the design for the Summerfield shawl. Knitted in Fyberspates Vivacious DK because I made Little Tern and loved the yarn so much. Wish me luck!

  • Happy to have this knitting community in my mailbox every morning! All that color and enthusiasm! And just as a by-the-way, I’m fascinated by how the colors in the Nine Patch Kit look different as skeins than they do in the blanket, where they of course abut all the others in many combinations. They work so well together. My Albers Cowl was a mini-course in how colors affect adjacent shades, not always as anticipated.
What joy there is in this passion of ours! ( Passion, or obsession: the other night I dreamed I was in a yarn shop selecting shades to go together for a project with a very helpful salesperson. Really.)

  • Happy for Monday, happy to be a knitter, happy to watch block 3 of my new log cabin (after finishing my crocheted one). And happy to have this community as my knitting friends!

  • I’m happy because I have been retired for three years and I still pinch myself every Monday morning because I don’t have to pull on tights and battle traffic and listen to presentations. No I can knit!

    • Not retired, but I share your joy in being able to roll over and either go back to sleep on a Monday morning, or go make a pot of yummy coffee and decide what project to knit on instead.

  • I am reading your blog in bed, with a cat under the duvet on my feet, and a mug of very fine coffee to hand. A lovely start to the day.

  • On a grey January morning, opening your emai bursting with passion for knitting and the generosity to inspire, teach encourage others to share your excitement makes me happy. (And excited and inspired!). Thank you!!

  • THIS is making me happy! And so is the magical fresh snow we are getting this morning. Great knitting weather 🙂

  • I’m happy because I’m almost finished my second sleeve and then I can start something new!

  • I’m happy because my black and white Birkin-in-progress is by my side. Although I miss him terribly, today is my dad’s birthday and I’m happy I had him in my life for as long as I did. He’s a huge part of who I am today.
Happy for MDK for starting every day off right!

  • I’m happy this morning because I got to share an unplanned cup of coffe with a friend after our morning walk was ended by a deluge! Oh and I’m also happy cuz my Summer Fairy is back on track after frogging it back 1.5”.

  • My day is only just beginning, but I am happy: enjoying early morning tea with a purring cat on my lap. I am working on a shawl when kitty lets me stop scratching her head!
