I Made It with Atlas: Ilya
If anyone asks you what I want for Christmas, I love dark chocolate and knitting colorwork sweaters (not necessarily in that order). As a test knitter I’m always dreaming of colorwork and yarn. Allow me to share my newest test knit—using Atlas. I fell completely in love!
Ilya—just released by Caitlin Hunter—is a superb colorwork sweater for Atlas. Non-superwash yarn for extra warmth. Soft-as-can-be Rambouillet for snuggling into the cowl neck. And with ample ease, Ilya in Atlas is a roomy, but still light layering piece.
I had to choose one of the greens for my main color. Peat is a perfect, dark and moody green that makes me think of the Evergreen State! For contrast colors I was inspired by sweaters I’ve been seeing at trendy stores. Peat combined with Seaglass and Tutu made me think of non-traditional holiday colors.
I may have ordered some more Atlas to make a hat and another colorwork sweater!
Make It with Atlas
- Ilya by Caitlin Hunter
- My blocked gauge is 20 stitches / 4″ (10 cm) using US 7 (4.5 mm) needles.
- For my Size 3 (with 8″ or 20 cm ease) I used 6 skeins of MC Peat. My contrast colors were Seaglass (2 skeins) and Tutu (1 skein).
Atlas Palettes for Ilya
What A great job you did! The sweater and fit are perfect! Now if I could just knit like you!
Gorgeous! I have got to try to make this sweater!
Wow. This is such a beautiful sweater, HyeSook. I love seeing your idea for the colors, so modern.
The pink was inspired and the sweater is gorgeous. Congrats on another beauty.
Beautiful! And absolutely agree with the color selections. Maybe I’ll give color work a try.
Absolutely stunning and just the inspiration I need to complete my first color work sweater. I can start planning the next one.
Another Atlas beauty. I wonder if it is the Ratio of one color to another in a pattern that makes it work. I would never have expected that I would like these three colors together. But I do..
Terrific! I confess I spent part of the weekend eyeing Atlas colors and thinking of Ilya. Maybe I’ll have to get on it.
That is absolutely stunning. I aspire to that colourwork. Wonderful colour choices.
So gorgeous!!!! Love your color combinations!
Marble, Pebble, Clementine! I live in FL so those colors seem to fit the FL vibe. Yes, it gets cold enough for sweaters down here. I might just have to modify and make it a crew neck thought 🙂
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your colors! Beautiful! I’m making my third ever sweater with Atlas in seaglass. I love this yarn!
Beautiful!
Wish I had more opportunities to wear wool in FL.
I really do!
Stunning! Just stunning! Truly inspired color choices! I am working to finish a shawl that I really don’t like my color choices. I am inspired to continue looking at colors I would not ordinarily pick. Thank you for sharing.
Curious, will there be new colors of Atlas in 2023?
Navy, mallard, clementine for me. I think. Probably.
I was surprised- admittedly I cruised thru this post pretty quickly. On my phone. But I was was surprised to see the “suggested colorways” only had three colors. I was like, what about the other colors? Had to scroll back and look twice.
THAT’S great design work.
What a beautiful sweater! The colors are wonderful together!
Love the new sweater Ilya, a great excuse to buy some Atlas yarn soon.I like the neck, looks nice and cozy.
