Dear friends,

If the name Anna Hrachovec is new to you, you’re in for a treat.

She is a legend, one of the most inventive folks we know, an utter delight. And she is beloved for the joy she is putting into the world.

If an empire can be tiny, Anna has created one, a world of very small creatures knitted with a large dose of humor and charm: Mochimochi Land, she calls it.

She writes: “Mochimochi Land was launched in 2007 as a place where knitted toys and people can live together in a spirit of tolerance. You too can advance human-toy understanding by knitting a new friend!” Her stop-motion animations are incredible. It’s all incredible.

We love this so much, so we invited Anna to come teach a virtual class on how to get started making these wee little new friends.

And—because we really wanted to create a complete experience for you—Anna has put together a special kit with everything needed to make three tiny cats. Plus two Mochimochi Land stickers because that’s just fun. The kit is exclusively available when you register for the workshop. It’s so cute!

This workshop is happening on Friday, December 13, and we hope you’ll join Anna as she shares her deep skill at how to make very small and extremely cute knitted creatures.

We’re kind of blowing through the kits for this class, so if this sounds like your (tiny) cup of (very cute) tea, sign up now so we can send you this (complete) (adorable) kit in time for the class on December 13. Register and find all the details right here.

And remember: Field Guide subscribers and MDK Society charter members save 10% when using your coupon codes.

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this, but this is quite possibly the cutest knitting I’ve ever seen. I can’t wait to see how a few bobbins of yarn can turn into a cat in a box.

Love,

Ann

  • I really would love to do this class, but am booked on that date. Would the artist consider doing another since this is obviously so popular?

    • Hi Deb and Mari! It’s true! The class will be recorded, so you’ll have a link to the video to watch whenever you like, with no expiration date.

    • Hi Deb! I am sure this class will be recorded, which is great for multiple reasons. I’ll be able to watch it when it’s more convenient for me, and I can also pause the recording to revisit certain steps. It really is a win-win. Seeing it in real time is great, but being able to rewatch at my own pace later is a huge bonus. I can take notes, pause to catch up, learn techniques at my pace, etc…

  • I took a class with Anna years ago and made a tiny gnome. It still brings a smile to my face whenever I see it.

    • There’s something so gentle about Anna’s world, just love seeing where her imagination takes her.

  • I just got my kit in yesterday’s mail. My daughter-in-law and I will probably do our “homework” for the class when we’re together for Thanksgiving. Then we’ve got to figure out our plan for watching it together from opposite sides of the country since Friday the 13th is a work day for her. However we do it, it’ll be fun!

    • I love that you and your DIL are doing this! Reaching across the time zones! So fun.

  • I’ve hemmed and hawed about registering for this since you announced it (purely due to budget considerations), and today I finally did (Merry Christmas to me!). I wish I could attend live, but I won’t be able to. Looking forward to it, nonetheless! Thank you for offering it.

    • I also hmmed and hawed – I’m in the midst of moving and although I should be at least semi-settled by December 13, I’m worried my kit won’t get here before I move. But then I decided — why not? If it’s not here before I leave on December 5, it will be forwarded!

    • Oh wow, thank you for diving in on this. I am the same way about so many things: want to, can’t quite decide, etc etc.

  • can I purchase the kitty patterns?

  • I am considering getting back into knitting after a 15 year absence. Never tried small knitting before — it was the double knit and small needles I was in fear of —however I have always had cats since the 70’s……. So I am very tempted… and Knitting Yarn anything with this World of Yarn has really expanded …… Tempted to try the kit — don’t understand the class – is it you have to be there – and where is there???
