It’s Here! The Brand-New Field Guide Starring Amy Christoffers

Dear everyone,
Big day! Very big day!
Please say hello to our spring chicken, our new baby, the sweetest springtime arrival we could ever hope for.

Field Guide No. 29: Mosaic. Five brand-new designs from the best-selling designer we have admired for more than a decade.
Amy Christoffers.
Amy is the quietest of designers, artful and thoughtful and endlessly curious. You’ll see what we mean when you spend time with the five new designs she has created for this Field Guide.
Members of the MDK Society receive this Field Guide as part of their membership. If you haven’t yet joined, sign up here—and we’ll send your Field Guide, membership pin, and membership card right away.
You can also order your Field Guide No. 29: Mosaic a la carte, right here, in print + ebook or ebook-only editions.
We’re Celebrating with a Free Zoom
Don’t miss it! This Friday, April 4, noon Central, Amy will join us for a conversation we’re really looking forward to. Sign up here, and we’ll send the link the day of—and the recording afterward in case you need to watch later.
The Thing About Amy
A knitwear designer for more than 15 years, Amy has published 625 designs. It’s astonishing body of work, some of it created while she was the creative director at Berocco Yarns, some under her own brand, Savory Knitting.
Having worked with her on Field Guide No. 6: Transparency (where the beloved Shakerag Top appears), we know that Amy’s process is deliberate and—at the heart of it—fueled by a patient curiosity. We’re thrilled that this Field Guide captures for you what happens when a technique and idea capture Amy’s imagination.
The technique here is mosaic knitting.
The idea is quilts.
The venerable quilt pattern, Ocean Waves, turns up in a set of designs that are fresh and modern.

We love that she chose Freia Fibers for the yarn, and we’ve got MDK-exclusive Freia bundles in two colorways for the cowl.

The Ocean Waves Mitts and Wristwarmers call for our MDK Jane yarn.

Eleven colors allow you to choose your color adventure, a skein each of two colors is all you need.

The Sweater We’ll All Make
The sample we all keep threatening to take home, the Waffle Pullover shows us Amy doing that thing she does so superbly: pairing a texture with the right yarn, in a clean, lovely silhouette.

The top-down raglan construction is one of our favorites, and you can make this in one color of MDK Jane or (our pick) two colors.

A Cloud of a Wrap
Amy shares our fascination with mohair/silk yarn. The Floating Squares Wrap is everything we love about Amy’s design sense.

We’ll have MDK-exclusive yarn bundles for this shortly, waiting for their arrival.

Lang Mohair Luxe, in three color options. This is going to be a hard decision. (We’ll spread the word when these bundles are available.)

The Simplest Cowl
Mosaic knitting has its own rhythm, and the Windowpane Cowl is the design that lets us get the hang of it.
Amy pairs a sport-weight wool with a strand of mohair/silk. This is the combination that is so popular these days—the softness and drape are everything. Perfect as a stashbuster, or you can find the yarns for this at Lichen and Lace.

This is the thing you make for that friend whose taste is for pure simplicity.
And Yes, the Lookbook
Ditch work and settle in with our new lookbook for Field Guide No. 29: Mosaic. We’ve created an easy way to see all the designs and yarns we have on offer. (Reminder: MDK Society members save 10% on all Shop purchases, all year long.) It’s right here, with shopping links throughout.

What’s Ahead?
So much! We’re going to relish our experience with Amy Christoffers. Watch for news of a knitalong, of a class for mosaic knitting, and join us for conversation in the MDK Society Lounge. (If you’ve yet to join the MDK Society, this is a prime time to jump in. The MDK Society Lounge is becoming a real destination for people who love to knit as much as you do, hope you’ll join us.)
And be sure to join us this Friday on Zoom as we celebrate this Field Guide with its designer, Amy Christoffers. Sign up here.
Love,
Ann and Kay
So excited! Congrats, MDK and Amy on such an amazing FG!
It’s just full of beauty! I poured over the pages of my new FG over the weekend and realized what perfect timing it is to be Mosaic! I’m currently working on the mosaic shawl from your recent video workshop with Ann Weaver. It’s so addictive (in a great way)!
Checking the mailbox daily! Another winner from Amy!
It’s a fabulous Field Guide! Recieved the book and card last week. No pin though. Arriving separately?
I received a pin that I would love to gift you. I can mail it to you, where do you live?
Thank you! I’m in Dallas. I would expect MDK will correct the omission?
Pin winging its way to you! Thanks for your patience, and Elaine for your generous offer.
Wow! Q1 at MDK World Headquarters has been a wild ride. A new yarn collaboration with patterns to go with it, a festival that was so much more than a festival, and now this! I actually had the pleasure of swanning around in the Floating Squares Wrap and I’m smitten.
Y’all need to take yourselves out to dinner!
Please tell us the colors used on the two sample sweaters in the look book. Im not good at picking colors.
Hi Francis! The one-color version uses Jane in Yorkshire. The two-color version is Yorkshire plus Bluebell in Jane.
It’s all gorgeous!
Yikes! You mean everyone has rec’d Mosaic Field Guide❓
I don’t have mine either. 🙁
Although there was a sub on my route for a couple of weeks, and he was caught dumping mail into a dumpster. Hope that’s not the case. (He is no longer employed with USPS!!!!)
OMG, that is horrible! I will not complain about my service, whew!

Keeping my fingers crossed for you!
