2 Dope Queens
Sometimes you just want to listen to something and laugh, you know?
The perfect answer to that situation is 2 Dope Queens, a weekly podcast by Phoebe Robinson and Jessica Williams. You can pick any episode at random, but I’m recommending Episode 33, because it’s the latest one so it’s easy to find at the top of that link.
Two-person podcasts hold promise for eavesdropping on hilarious friend conversations, and 2 Dope Queens, taped before a live audience, delivers. They are so dang funny. I don’t always get the language or the pop culture references (due to age), sometimes I’m embarrassed by the sexual frankness (due to age), but then I get over myself and just laugh. I mean, even an old gal gets the truth and funniness of the concept of the “home bra.” (Raise your hand if you’ve got a home bra.)
To give a sense of what you’re in for, here’s WNYC’s blurb on the show:
Join the 2 Dope Queens, Phoebe Robinson and Jessica Williams, along with their favorite comedians, for stories about sex, romance, race, hair journeys, living in New York, and Billy Joel. Plus a whole bunch of other s**t.
But seriously, if WNYC is producing it, how inappropriate can it be? They’re the Car Talk people! Weekend Edition! Home of the home bra! If it’s not your thing, pass it by, but if you can’t stop laughing, you’re welcome.
(Due to age) would those girls be surprised that old fogies (us) enjoy their humor? I’m already inspired to carry around a hip hop track on my phone while I babysit my granddaughter. She’s well into her funniest year (the unaware-I’m-hilarous 2-3s) and needs to have her performances musically enhanced for Grandma’s total enjoyment.
I just ADORE 2 Dope Queens! Be sure to also check out Phoebe’s solo podcast Sooo Many White Guys (so named because its focus tries to correct that media characteristic). If you can get past the nasal screeching I find tiresome (due to age), you’ll discover she has an amazing, “budding Terry Gross” style talent for interviewing her guests.
YQY! I love Sooooo Many White Guys! The Tom Hanks episode is amazing.
But the best home bra is no bra at all!
This! Thank you!
Ooh, can’t wait to listen. But Tasha’s right: a home bra IS a no bra!
Oh, my gosh, I hadn’t caught on to the fact that Jessica Williams has a podcast. I’m going to have to check that out.
WNYC — home to The Jonathon Channel, The Naked American Songbook and lots of other favorites as well … yes, I carry my tote bag with pride!
Jessica Williams, formerly of TDS? Wow, totally listening. I’m 20 years older than her but loved her on that show.
Some of us need bras all the time, unless we’re horizontal and thereby immune to gravity. 🙂
I love jessica williams!!! I need to listen to that!
My home bra is my every day, everywhere bra. Decentexposures.com FTW!
I just started listening on a business trip and OMG I never laughed so hard, in public, by myself in all my life. I binge-listened like 4.5 episodes on the plane and a drama-ridden journey from SFO to home.
Thanks so much for the tip!
Viva the home bra! Which is bra. Me without one is not pretty, alas.
