Knit to This: Jen Hewett
Dear Kay,
Huge Jen Hewett fan here. She is a wildly creative person, combining a love of printmaking, surface design, and textile design with her passion for teaching.
Her work is delicious, mixing sophisticated color and pattern. If you’re looking for a diversion (and aren’t we all?), I recommend taking a stroll through her website, where you’ll see her portfolio as well as her shop, where she offers lots of prints, scarves and enamel pins.
I learned of Jen Hewett a few years ago, via her beautiful collaborations with Karen Templer at Fringe Supply Co. And I just had a good time listening to her new conversation with Nick DeFord for The Arrowmont Podcast, produced as part of Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts.
Here’s the podcast (with a variety of sources for listening to it).
In case you don’t know about Arrowmont, it is a renowned school of arts and craft in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, now more than 100 years old. I’ve always wanted to take a workshop there!
Love,
Ann

She Is the bee’s knees. I love what I think of as the Balance in her designs. Thank you for pointing us in her direction. Chloe
Arrow Mont began as a settlement school started by the sorority pi Beta phi. It was sold much later but continues to be a wonderful resource in Gatlinburg.
Pick a workshop and I’ll come meet you. It’s only an 11 hour drive from my house.
WOW!
I have been going to workshops at Arrowmont every year for almost 30 years. It is a life-changing, enhancing place! Call for a catalogue.
Took a workshop in 2014 at Arrowmont and had an incredible time! Nestled in the forest, I felt like I was in an enchanted place, far from the roaring crowds while actually only half a mile from the teeming strip. Keep watch for a workshop you will enjoy, even if it’s something you think you’ll never use!
