Knit to This: My Policeman
Dear Ann,
I had to watch My Policeman, a recent movie now streaming on Amazon Prime, to find out if the charming Harry Styles could act.
He can, and he does. He’s wonderful and perfectly cast, as are all of the 6 actors who play the three main characters, in youth and age, starting in the late 1950s. Special mention goes to Emma Corrin, whom many will recognize from her role as young Diana in The Crown, and Gina McKee, who both play the young and older versions of the wounded (and sometimes wounding) wife of the policeman in question. He’s her policeman, in a way, but not entirely.
It’s not a happy story. My Policeman lays out the extreme damage done by lies and cruelty, and it does so with nuanced understanding of the complexities of people loving each other, with the jealousy and fear, pain and tenderness that can come with that. It’s heartbreaking, and deeply sad.
The 1950s sets and costumes are gorgeous, truly great.
Highly recommend!
Love,
Kay
The acting in this was so well done. Sad that we cannot let people just be who they are. So senseless to force people into roles they aren’t meant for. Hopeful that we will do better as we go forward.
I loved this movie!
I had to watch it since I like your recommendations! Although it was a sad story, I liked the way it was ultimately resolved.
