Lazy Sunday: Holiday Gathering with Kaffe and Erin
Dear Kay,
I cannot get enough of Kaffe Fassett these days. The wit and wisdom from this legendary artist is ringing around in my head all the time.
Just when I need it most, Melanie Falick saves the day and brings us a brand-new, fantastic conversation with Kaffe and his niece, the artist Erin Lee Gafill. It’s the latest episode in Melanie’s video series, Making a Life: The Conversation.
That’s the whole conversation up top. What’s really fun here is that Erin, an artist herself, talks us through how she makes holiday cards. If you happen to have some decorative paper and glue on hand, definitely join in and make a card while you listen.
Or, as I did, work on your Kaffe Fassett knitting while listening to Kaffe Fassett. That’s pretty sublime as well.
Melanie’s free conversations with makers are proving to be a hot ticket. It all flows from her exquisite book, Making a Life: Working by Hand and Discovering the Life You’re Meant to Live. Follow her on Instagram to keep up with upcoming conversations.
Holidays are coming! Hope you’re all finding time to bake something, decorate something, sneak in a decent nap.
Love,
Ann
I loved every minute of this. Melanie’s conversations have been an oasis.
This was an absolute FABULOUS video above from Melanie! To “meet” Kaffe und Erin and family members, hear their stories and inspiring words of wisdom, something we all can use in these unusual times. Be in the moment!
Brilliant encouragement. Seeing color, pattern and unexpected beauty has been my path. Kaffe has inspired me for years. Thank you for this!
What a gift this is! Thank you for spiritual nourishment.
I’m so glad to have a chance to see/hear this! I missed it the original. Thanks!
I had put off starting this because I thought I’d have to wait until spare an hour and a half that, gee, I just didn’t really have. Late this afternoon I decided I would just take a look at the beginning. Ha! This is wonderful! (Dinner? Fix yourself a PB&J. Walk the dog? You’ll have to take her or we’ll just clean up later.)
I couldn’t stop. Loved every minute. Those big swatches sewn together! Can’t wait to see them mounted and displayed. The cards! The insight…I’m not good at perfectionism. That is just loaded with permission to fly.
Thank you Kaffe Fassett and Erin Lee Gafill and Melanie and MDK
I did knit a dishcloth.
