Mudbound
Dear Ann,
I’d heard a lot about Mudbound, a Netflix Original movie that also had a run in theaters.
It’s hard to watch, and worth watching. Excellent performances by the entire cast, and masterful direction of a complex story billed as a Jim Crow epic of two families.
The New York Times review does not tell what happens, and has a bonus video anatomy of a scene narrated by the director, Dee Rees.
(Richard Brody wrote a critique of the film for the New Yorker that does tell what happens in the film.)
Love,
Kay
OOPS! The first link goes to an Instagram post. I don’t read Japanese, but I suspect it’s not about the film.
Thank you, Judy! Fixed it.
I’m listening to the audio book right now and enjoying it. Looking forward to seeing the movie.
The book “Mudbound” by Hillary Jordan was a Bellwether Prize winner. Barbara Kingsolver created and funds the prize for socially engaged fiction. I’m happy to let Barbara Kingsolver choose my next read. (Minus the poisonous snakes.)
