EDITOR’S NOTE: Voting has now closed for Round 1 of MDK March Mayhem. Thank you for your votes—and be sure to come back on Tuesday, March 24, to see who advances to Round 2 and to cast your vote again!

Dear pattern-loving people of the world,

We know there’s a lot going on in the world, so we’re extra glad to have some first-class knitting entertainment to offer you, in the form of a championship of knitting patterns.

Today is the day. It’s time to vote in Round 1 of MDK March Mayhem.

Let’s hitch up our hip-waders and venture into a mighty river of talent represented by 64 knitting patterns.  This is the hardest round, because we have to eliminate 32 patterns from the bracket. You can do it! Print out your bracket, roll up your sleeves, and do your best.

How to Vote

Please read the following carefully.

The ballot appears on the MDK March Mayhem bracket page.

Click over to the bracket here, then once there, you’ll click CLICK HERE TO VOTE NOW.

From these 64 patterns, voters must pick 32 patterns. It’s a difficult task. Be strong. Go with your heart. You must pick eight patterns in each of the four categories for your votes to register.

If you’d like to keep track of your picks on a printable bracket, download it here.

What’s Ahead: The Voting Schedule

Round 1: March 20-22 (NOW). Vote for 8 in each category.

Round 2: March 24-25.  Vote for 4 in each category.

Round 3: March 27-29. Vote for 2 in each category.

Round 4: March 31-April 1. Vote for 1 in each category.

Round 5: Championship. April 3-5. Vote for 1 pattern.

The Champion of MDK March Mayhem 2020 will be announced on Tuesday, April 7, 2020.

Love,

Ann and Kay

  • These choices are hard! But I’ve already chosen a sweater, a hat and a cowl to make and my box of yarn has been shipped and due to be delivered Monday. Whoopee!

  • Cannot thank you enough for this wonderful diversion during these hard days!

  • The printable bracket was for 2019! Need current one, please.

    • Fixed it! Thanks for calling it to our attention

    • MDKMM 2020 is for patterns published in 2019-you’re all set.

  • It is so good to have this to look forward to. Love the patterns. I have several contending to be in my queue.

  • This is so much fun! Have bought two, so far!

  • I wish you could see a live tallying of the votes, but maybe that’s just because I’m so starved for entertainment. Also, I just enjoy data like that. Anyway, I’m so glad this is able to continue on as usual in a time of turbulence.

    • This is a fun idea. On Facebook live, maybe?

  • Oh no! Is voting closed? It’s 10 pm EST on March 20 (aka Modern Daily voting day!!) and there is no link 🙁 I checked on my phone and computer.

  • Woke up this morning and so grateful to have something fun to look forward to in these times! Thanks MDK for continuing this after Nashville’s own disaster. Wish I didn’t have so much to do despite the almost lockdown that I could knit more….

  • Am I missing something? Where are the cardigans? i wanted to vote for Rumo, Savage Heart and Elton and I don’t see them.

    • The bracket is for patterns first published in 2019. I know Savage Heart is not a 2019 pattern because I I made it in 2018. I don’t think Elton is 2019 either. It was super hard to pick only 16 sweaters published 2019, and we greatly appreciate everyone who responded to our call for nominations earlier this year.

  • So fun. Thanks MDK. Voted yesterday. Got to admit, I am not a sock knitter so I winged it and went with clever names on that category. Why does the Talking Heads song Life During Wartime keep playing in my head? I also feel the need to read Love in the Time of Cholera again… But, I will definitely be knitting through the stash during these times and hoping everyone stays safe.

  • The pdf download is only two pages – Feet and Head & Hands. Help?
I’ve tried on several devises and from different offers to download.

  • This is my first time voting in each category. I guess there is an upside to being stuck in the house! I am looking forward to the next round.
