New and Noteworthy for April

The New Knitty is Live

Knitty.com’s Spring/Summer issue of free patterns and other great stuff is out.  (Amalgam, a skirt/cowl combo by MDK’s own Nell Ziroli, is a dream-come-true garment for Ann, who has been known to turn a cowl into a skirt, or try, anyway.)

Knitbot fans, rejoice! Hannah Fettig, designer of the ubiquitous and perfect Featherweight Cardigan, applies her vision of simple, wearable, versatile knits to garments with overall texture stitches instead of stockinette.

Knitting from the North

This book from late 2016 is striking in the simplicity and freshness of its colorwork motifs and shapes, and the beauty of its photography and styling. It deserves a place on the shelf next to your Icelandic and Fair Isle books, where it will perk up the conversation.

The Knit Show With Vickie Howell: Funded!

The Knit Show with Vickie Howell just completed a successful Kickstarter campaign to fund the development of a new online knitting show.

Although the fundraising campaign (or at least phase one) has ended, you can read about the project here (there are fun videos), and you can follow the project’s development on Instagram (@theknitshow) and Facebook. We look forward to seeing the show in October!

Knit Noro: Accessories 2

Noro yarns from Japan are their own kind of wonderful, but it can be a head-scratcher to adapt them to existing patterns, what with the irregular striping, the flashes of neon brights out of nowhere, and the odd bits of flurf and twig. Rejoice, Noro fans! There are 30 new accessory patterns in this brand-new book from Sixth & Spring, which makes lovely books.

“Garter stitch” anything never fails to perk up our ears. We are, after all, the people who started the Instagram hashtag #garterstitchWOW (which is a national treasure).  So we are eager to lay eyes on this 2017 collection by Interweave Press.

The Mindfulness in Knitting

Rachel Mathews has long been active and influential in knitting and art, especially in the UK, where she directs the Cast Off knitting club and is proprietor of the shop Prick Your Finger, among many other things. This is her first book since 2005. Craft and calm? Sounds pretty good.

Arne and Carlos!

A new book from Arne and Carlos is always pure fun.  Their latest book is barely a month old. The cover is to die for, and perhaps to steal I mean homage. (We would look real cute as knitted birds with glasses, wouldn’t we? Who wouldn’t! It’s the best idea ever.) Their video up top is so soothing; it’s the ultimate in craft and calm.
