I first encountered Dianna Walla when her Pine Bough Cowl floated into my computer one day four years ago. It was the sort of Fair Isle that really, really makes my day—two colors, memorable stitch pattern, snack sized. I loved making that thing.

I never thought then that I’d have the chance to launch a new Dianna Walla pattern on MDK. But here we are—such a pleasure.

Dianna just wrote about the design process for the Leif Cowl at her addicting blog, Paper Tiger. She describes it better than I can, so I hope you’ll enjoy her post about the Leif Cowl.

spincycle yarns were to be the star of the show.

Her Leif Cowl is a design that has all the easy fun of the Pine Bough Cowl but with twists that make it a different project in several significant ways.

first swatch. it wasn’t our last swatch.

Dianna gives some excellent advice on working with Spincycle yarns.

Most of all, it’s a way to play with a wild yarn. We love that.

Dianna lives above the Arctic Circle, in Tromsø, Norway, though she grew up in North Carolina. I live out my fantasies of trips to Scandinavia via Dianna’s blog and also her travel pieces for MDK. Come back here on Monday, April 24, for “A Knitter’s Weekend: Oslo.” We’re all going to Norway!

  • I’ve been eyeing the Leif Cowl kit in the shop for a while now. You just pushed me over the edge. I do love a good cowl, and the combo of clever pattern and fabulous funky yarn is just too much for me to resist!

    • She pushed me over too!

  • I’m a huge fan of both Dianna and the Spincycle yarns. Both of them at one swing? Sign me up!

  • Can’t wait for our trip to Oslo. The more I see of Scandinavia, the more I love it.

  • Fab colours, the red/pink is my favourite

    • Mine too!

  • As another Scandinavia fantasist, I’m looking forward to the 24th!

  • OK, you win, pattern diet officially broken! Also thanks for the Rav link which led me to those great Walla patterns. Oh, it’s such a slippery slope…. fun too!

  • The perfect combo of simple and effective patterning and super fabulous yarn.
I look forward to our upcoming glimpse of Oslo, thank you Dianna!

  • I am disappointed to not see Dyed in the Wool color Overpasses which is called for in the Narcissus color way for the Leif cowl. That particular color combo is mesmerizing. But when I went on the site to see if it was there I was blown away at how drab it looked compared to the colors on your site. yes I know computers are different but gee…whiz…………any suggestions? i wanted to buy the yarn here too
