Pattern Parade: Indie Designs for Nua Sport
I’m looking forward to some MDK Field Guide No. 14: Refresh show and tell soon. Our Field Guide No. 14 knitalong, Refreshalong, is in full, glorious swing. Ann’s Twining Wrap grows daily in length, width, and beauty. My Trellis Top is nearing the finish line—or actually: a massive, blowout I-cord party—after a bit of off-road swatching.
We keep hearing rapturous raves about Carol Feller’s Nua Sport yarn. Nua is a bit of a rare bird, and we know that some knitters have bought Nua sight unseen, based on our glowing testimonials. So it’s beyond gratifying to hear so many cheers for Nua—on the needles and knitted up.
Nua Sport is perfect for Carol’s patterns in Field Guide No. 14, but what if you want to knit something else with it? Carol has her own beautiful patterns, of course, but it’s also fun to see what other independent designers have done with this yarn in their own patterns. Carol has compiled a Ravelry bundle that includes these and others. Here are four, to get you started.
Joyce by Woolly Wormhead
It’s a Woolly Wormhead hat, so it’s a great hat. It’s also a great amuse-bouche pattern to take Nua out for a spin.

If you’re curious about Laura Nelkin’s side-to-side sweater construction (I think it’s patented; don’t quote me on that) and also curious about Nua Sport, well, here you go. I love the side notches.

Disclaimer: Jimenez Joseph designed this sculptural shawl for Nua Sport’s big sister—Nua Worsted—but surely it wouldn’t be that hard to modify it for Nua Sport, for a lighter, and perhaps even drapier, wrapper.
These colours are great. As this yarn is a Sport Weight, are there any patterns that would work for a man’s sweater/jumper?
I’m going to add this sweater to my wardrobe. Rumor has it the yarn is great and I love that pattern. Is there a kit for this?
I just finished the Kerenze sweater by Jennifer Wood. And it is a super fun knit once you get past the set up rows and into the rhythm of the cables. It is a beautiful sweater in nua sport with set in sleeves knit from the top down. I was looking for another pattern with set in sleeves since I really enjoyed making the transom sweater and this one is a gem!!!
PS. I’m also making Carol’s Sanremo tee shirt. Also with set in cap sleeves. And it’s great fun too
