Easy Does It: The Scarf and Cowl to Make Now

I’ll be quick here. Just want to point you toward the scarf I’ve been wearing around MDK World Headquarters despite the fact that it’s full-on summer here.

It’s keeping our industrial air conditioning at bay, I’ll tell you what.

Loving. This. So. Much.

The Scarf-Cowl Duet, starring in the new Field Guide No. 18: Beginnings, is Karida Collins’s idea of a supersimple project that delivers a ton of color and warmth.

She offers both a scarf and a cowl version—which is basically a shorter amount of knitting, plus a seam to join the ends into a circle.

It just feels great, that’s all. This swath of box stitch has a swing and a drape to it that I really love. The yarn here is Karida’s Neighborhood Fiber Co. Organic Studio Chunky, a yarn that has this unusual spin to it that makes it feel like the softest rope you’ll ever touch. Two skeins will make the cowl; four skeins for the scarf.

A design this simple is just the thing for showing off the subtle color shifts of Karida’s hand dyeing. Her dyeing style creates saturated color, and you can really see the beauty of it when working on a scarf like this.

Box stitch. Simple summer knitting, the Scarf-Cowl Duet (Ravelry link) is exactly what I’m craving.
