Thank You, Every One of Ya
Dear everybody,
As you read this, we are gathering for the MDK team’s holiday party.
There are biscuits. There are Secret Santa items.
It’s the day we head out for a long winter’s nap, a week that our entire team takes between Christmas and New Year’s to rest, reflect, restore, and plan a bunch of stuff we end up not doing because it’s more fun not to do it.
(I hasten to say that the Year End Sale continues until New Year’s Day at least—so we hope you’ll keep hunting for bargains. We’ll get them out to you the first week of January.)
How It Went
For me, this time of year is when I feel a considerable sense of relief. And pride. We did it! We did a year.
Three Field Guides, from Arne and Carlos, Olga Buraya-Kefelian, and Dee Hardwicke. New friends found, beautiful things made.
A year with 365 posts, one for every day of the year, from a group of contributors who surprise us every time with what they bring us.
The MDK Shop brought in all sorts of things. Yarns, new makers in the mix, cool stuff. Unprecedented selling of peanut butter. It continually astonishes me how much effort it takes to bring in a product. So many hands needed. And we shipped it all.
Events both in person and virtual, with Natalie Chanin, Lorilee Beltman, Olga Buraya-Kefelian, Sarah Schira, and Jan Quarles. Knitalongs and giveaways and endless conversation in the Lounge.
What’s Ahead
We measure our work in years at MDK, and 2023 has been a year where we have had a comprehensive buffet of ALL the feels. Anybody who operates a small business knows exactly what I’m talking about. If you’re feeling sassy, wait five minutes. If you think the world is crashing all around you, wait five minutes. It’s a thrill ride like no other.
Our goal at all times is to delight you, so with that as our eternal aim, we have a lot of fun planned for the new year. The three Field Guides in the works are extraordinary. Surprises afoot.
As always, we love hearing your ideas for what you’d like to see from MDK. Thank you for hanging out with us—it means the world to us.
Now, off to settle our brains for that long winter’s nap.
