Pattern Scout
Introducing: The Twining Wrap
Dear Kay,
We welcome the Twining Wrap, one of Carol Feller’s exquisite designs in MDK Field Guide No. 14: Refresh.
Take a bow, scrumptious snuggler of beautiful textures.
Let everyone take a look at the cables and twists that make you a scrumptrelescent piece of knitting.
Twining Wrap, you are a clever pattern because you start small and end with a gigantic swoosh. With only four stitches at the outset, you let knitters ease into the various stitch patterns and increases. This design blends stretches of smooth sailing and a few tricky bits to make us feel clever. When the cables start to emerge, it is completely addicting.
The yarn here, as for all the projects in this Field Guide, was designed by Carol Feller herself. Nua Sport. It’s wonderful.
Prepare for Fun
In celebration of the arrival of MDK Field Guide No. 14: Refresh, we have a knitalong launching on May 1. I am here to report that I totally jumped the gun on this thing by a full month.
Halfway done, the Twining Wrap is already one of my high points of The Year in Knitting 2020. (At the rate we’re going, we are all going to have a LOT of high points in knitting this year.)
I’ll be back to show my progress. This Nua Sport yarn is sparking joy all day long—I’ve never spent time with a merino/yak/linen blend until now, and let me tell you, it is mighty pleasant indeed.
If you’re deciding what you’d like to make for the Refresh knitalong, I nominate this Twining Wrap. Here’s the Ravelry page, where you can read all the juicy details about it.
It’s a subtle piece of great beauty. A real charmer!
Love,
Ann
Will you please recommend a good resource for beginners to learn new stiches, techniques
I have to put in a pitch for Jen Arnall-Culliford’s 2-book series A Year of Techniques and Boost Your Knitting. All the videos are free and you can find them in our How To category. She is a remarkable teacher, very calm and clear.
If you follow Very Pink Knits on Yourube for basics or Roxanne Richardson’s Ravelry store for complicated stuff – find her onn Ravelry – you can’t go far wrong.
I am so tempted! I feel a new field guide coming my way! Thank you, Ann and Kay!!!
I, too am stating with The Twining Wrap. My Yarn, Hatter’s Teal Party is on its way to me.
Is this shawl asymmetrical?
Hi Clara! Yes, the shawl is a triangle shape, asymmetrical.
Adding the word, “scrumptrelescent” to my vocabulary immediately.
My yarn and field guide arrived today….The yarn is absolutely gorgeous and I can’t wait to cast on the Twining Wrap❣️
I’ll be starting with the Twining Wrap, too … and my new favorite word is “scrumptrelescent.” 🙂
I am in for this one. It is so seductive.
Finished the Trellis Top and love the finished top. The yarn is sooo soft, yet strong.
