Dear Ann,
I finished my second Riddari Icelandic pullover the other day. Today the Riddari girls got together, and I took some iPhone pictures in bad winter 6 p.m. light.
Maggie and Carrie.
When you’re 16, getting matching, classic handknit sweaters is pretty exciting stuff.
Yes it is.
Honest! It so is!
I promise you that I am going to make these girls braid their hair into odd shapes, put on sparkly makeup and run around in the woods taking pictures of themselves on a real camera, a-sap. Ann: I would not make such a commitment lightly.
Maggie also got a cowl. This is the State Street Cowl. She was wearing it for real.
And for those who haven’t been reading very long, this is Carrie and Maggie, in my mind:
Happy weekend everybody!
Love,
Kay
What a great post! They grow up before we know it, don’t they?

Those girls know how to rock those Riddari! (I think of Riddari as singular and plural, too.) They look great, and the look back to childhood is extra sweet!
Lovely girls …lovely sweaters.
I teared up when I got to the last picture. Such sweet faces! My mind holds an image of my daughter at pre-K age, in her uniform with little bloomers, and when I go there it doesn’t take long before I’m reduced to a puddle. She’ll be 23 this month, which may explain the nostalgia.
Both sweaters & cowl are impressive! You’re good.
Oh – such lovely young ladies with gorgeous sweaters. I’ve been observing that I take almost all my pictures now with my iPhone… to the point that I can’t even remember where my camera is. Kudos on finishing two very classic sweaters. I hope they wear them forever!

Eternally adorable cousins!
Back from Ha’Aretz so soon!
The sweaters are gorgeous, as are the girls. I can totally relate to the last photo though. How sweet.
Wow – lovely sweaters and great looking models! The pix of them as young girls is beyond sweet.
I’m sorry, you said you finished your SECOND Icelandic pullover?
I need to go lie down.
wow, if a phone cam. makes those sweaters look so outstanding, then i can’t even imagine what a regular cam. would do! such beautiful sweaters, enhanced by the lovliness of the models. (sigh) wasn’t it only yesterday that you were folding cranes for Carrie’s bat mitzvah? oh my, sunrise, sunset….
God bless.
LoveDiane
p.s.–is that THE cowl, blocked?
Between you and the Yarn Harlot letter to Luis and the impending departure of my own fledged youngster, I am reduced to tears on a regular basis.
Great sweaters. Headed for Iceland in July as our final pre-college family vacation, graduation trip, 50th birthday celebration and 25 +1 anniversary gift to each other. Lotta baggage, even if we only take carry-ons.
Great looking sweaters on gorgeous girls. How very sweet sixteen!
The sweaters and the girls look great. Love the old photo, nice that they still get along so well!
I’m afraid that if my teenage son ever saw your post he’d say “and ALL I ever got was a stinkin’ Wallaby”!
Beautiful girls and beautiful sweaters!
Oh wow wow wow! It’s time travel, you know, seeing little girls turn into teenagers just like that.
Biggest shocker here: THAT COWL IS HYUGE. I thought it was a neck-tube-sized cowl. You need to put a quarter or something in the corner so we can tell that you are manufacturing enormous cowls! She’s wearing the heck out of that cowl!
I love every single thing about this post, from the still friends,to the matching sweaters,to what beautiful young ladies they have grown up to be,to what a fast, incredible knitter you are…. wow! I’ve ripped a cuff off a sock three times this week….so at my knitting rate, one of those sweaters would take a lifetime!Great post!
WOW!!! What a MOM!!!
Nice! I mean, NICE. Really, really nice. I’m starting to sound sarcastic, but I really mean it.
GORGEOUS! Fantastic sweaters and beautiful girls!

Beautiful girls, beautiful sweaters, and they obviously love them. Great. How true, sometimes the picture we keep in our mind is far from current.

Beautiful girls, beautiful sweaters, beautiful post. I’d make one for my 16-year-old if we didn’t live in the Arizona desert; not much time to wear anything remotely Icelandic! Thank you, Kay
Wonderful sweaters!
They look lovely. I don’t know if it is something in their smiling faces or the matching sweaters, but they look like sisters!
AT 62 it would be pretty exciting getting handknit Riddari sweater!
Beautiful…girls and sweaters!
Beautiful! Those girls are downright Vermeer.
Stunning, simply stunning! Lucky girls!
In the words of a bad date.
O M G
So beautiful.
Did YOU work it inside out? (I’ve read Ann’s post first.)
Kind of envious.
