Dear knitter,

Happy Saturday!

Whatever you do, open your email from MDK tomorrow, Sunday, April 13, or visit the MDK homepage. We’ve got an exciting announcement we’ve been struggling to keep on the downlow. Find out tomorrow! Until then, our lips are semi-sealed.

Other Excitements

We get it—you’re good at knitting. You’re a dab hand at colorwork techniques: stripes, stranded, brioche—even intarsia. But are you confident about choosing color combinations that will make your projects sing?

If you need help finding your inner Matisse, we have fantastic news: designer and hand-dyer Ann Weaver is bringing us a new virtual class that will rev up your color-picking power. Going beyond color theory, Knitting With Color is a lively exploration of color in fine art, design, knitting, and daily life.

On May 9, join us for a fun 90 minutes of colorful learning with designer and teacher Ann Weaver. The format will be an illustrated talk, on Zoom, and yes—it will be recorded. Read on for all the details and to reserve your place.

This Changes Everything

Thanks to Kate Atherley’s marvelous class yesterday, we are completely different people now—we know how to mend our knits!

It’s not too late to learn basic mends to rejuvenate your favorite handknits. Sign up for Mending Made Easy now, and we’ll send you a link to the video recording in your order confirmation email. Do not tarry—we’ll have to take this class down on Monday.

Meanwhile …

We had a big time on MDK this week.

Nothing says lovin’ like a sweater in the oven, and Clara Parkes says it best! (If you don’t know the old Pillsbury jingle and don’t mind an earworm, here’s a YouTube for ya.)

Jeania Ree V. Moore spent a perfect, pastoral day with local fiber farmers, and rediscovered the importance of in-person community and connection in an increasingly virtual world.

Do you know the m1z? Kate Atherley champions Elizabeth Zimmermann’s clever version of the make-1 increase

What are knitting instructions, if not a secret code? We bid a hearty welcome to MDK’s newest contributor, Ashleigh-ellan Kavanagh, who brought us a tale of knitting, espionage, and resistance.

Ann is full of tips this week: making a sweater using speckled hand-dyed yarn

Calling all history nerds and/or trash enthusiasts: this one’s for you.

Your Support Is Everything—Thank You!

At MDK, making knitters happy is all we think about, every single day. If you love what we’re doing, it’s vital—and easy—to support MDK.

One great way, of course: join the MDK Society. And also, whenever you shop with MDK, sign up for a workshop, or share our content with others, you’re directly supporting the yarnmakers, artisans, teachers, and writers that we feature here. Thank you!

Questions? Email us anytime at hello@moderndailyknitting.com, and you’ll get a prompt response from a real live MDK person.

Stay healthy, take care of each other, and knit on.

Love,

Ann and Kay

PS Please forward this Snippets to a knitter friend—we appreciate it so much!

The Little Knit-a-Thon That Could!

Hearty congratulations to everyone who knit and raised funds last Saturday for Knit for Food. This amazing community effort had a banner year, raising over $530,000 for hunger relief!  We had a blast doing our bit as Team MDK, and we’ll be back again next year. For now, let’s go admire the tote board, and pat ourselves on the back for doing a good thing, together.

A Yarn is Born
