Snippets
You’ve Got Snippets: July 27, 2024
Dear Knitter,
Happy Saturday!
We can’t stop talking about it, so we hope you’ve heard: on September 6, 2024, we’re hosting a virtual workshop with the legendary Natalie Chanin.
Opportunities to learn the Alabama Chanin method of hand-sewing from Natalie herself are rare, and we’re over the moon to offer this workshop. For all the details, and to register, click here.
Just In: Creative Linen Saves the Day
We just received more Rowan Creative Linen, if you’ve been dreaming of Nell Ziroli’s Shakerag Skirt. Yarn here. Skirt pattern here. It’s the coolest, and by coolest we mean actually cool during this steamy season.
Save Save Save!
A reminder for MDK Field Guide subscribers: save 10 percent on virtual events (and the whole MDK Shop) when you enter the subscriber coupon code we emailed you on July 1.
Summer of Socks
We’re loving all the DK-weight socks showing up this summer—knitters are having fun exploring Fatimah Hinds’s four designs for MDK Field Guide No. 27: Sock Odyssey. Big fun: using DK weight yarns, rather than the typical fingering weight.
We brought in some very special hand-dyed yarns for this Field Guide, find your favorite here.
Meanwhile…
We had a big time on MDK this week.
A form of immortality: what does Dana Williams-Johnson knit to welcome a new arrival?
Seasonal shelf-care: whether you’re by the sea or by the fire, Max Daniels wants to know about good books to curl up with.
Another MDK Summer Camp is in the books. Here’s Ann’s report on the incredible joy of being really bad at making a basket.
World traveler Mary Jane Mucklestone took us with her to a slice of sheepy heaven in Australia.
Hopefully they’re still out there, being worn: Claudia B. Manley’s sweaters that got away.
Recommended listening: a wildly compelling podcast.
Your Support Is Everything—Thank You!
At MDK, supporting and elevating the knitting life is all we think about, every single day. It’s vital—and easy—to support MDK!
When you shop with MDK, take a workshop, and share our content with your knitting friends, you’re also supporting the yarnmakers, artisans, teachers, and writers that we feature here. It’s a daily challenge to make our tiny business go, and we’re grateful to everyone who helps us do that. Thank you!
Questions? Email us anytime at hello@moderndailyknitting.com, and you’ll get a prompt personal response from a real live MDK person.
Stay healthy, take care of each other, and knit on.
Love,
Ann and Kay
PS Please forward this Snippets to a knitter—we appreciate it so much!
Summer of Socks
This summer is all about the joys of sock knitting, through Fatimah Hinds’s four designs for MDK Field Guide No. 27: Sock Odyssey. Suddenly, socks are super easy to attain, because we’re using DK weight yarns, rather than the typical fingering weight.
What a difference that change makes! Socks knit up faster. They’re extra cushiony and comfy.
Find all the special hand-dyed yarns we brought in for this Field Guide here.
A Win-Win for MDK and Your Knitting!
We hear from knitters who read Snippets every Saturday and proudly tell us they do it “in my PJs!” Putting together Snippets (sometimes in PJs ourselves) is our favorite weekly project—for almost ten years now! We never take your readership for granted, and we never clutter up the posts you love with ads about wrinkle cream and compression socks—or anything else.
You can help us keep MDK free of charge, and free of ads. One of the best ways to show support is collecting the MDK Field Guides. Check out this nifty way to build your own bundle of these little books at a very nice savings.
Count Us In
Just restocked! A cheerful row counting gadget that clicks back—perfect for keeping track of lace chart rows. A go-to tape measure that’s MDK cute. The game changer of gauge checkers. Plus—some things we are loving right now:
We’ve always got something going on at MDK—and we want you to know about it! Keep up to date with all of the happenings on our Events page, right here.
