Dear knitter,

Happy Saturday!

At long last, we’re thrilled to announce the virtual workshop that knitters have been requesting: Brioche Beginnings!

On April 25, 2025, from noon-3 pm Eastern, please join us for an afternoon of fun and learning with renowned brioche designer and teacher Michele Bernstein.

Using Michele’s cute ’n’ clever Brioche Pastiche hat and cowl pattern, you’ll learn not only the basics of two-color brioche, but the way to make those cool brioche curves and tendrils, using simple increases and decreases. It’s a great way to fast-track your brioche journey.

Click here for all the details and to reserve your place.

And yes: the class will be recorded. We’ll email a link to the video recording to everyone who’s enrolled, for watching and rewatching at your leisure.

For the Fixer-Uppers

If you’re like us, somewhere in your home there is a hopeful heap of handknits waiting for a quick mend. Guess what? Technical knitting whiz Kate Atherley is here to save the day, in a new virtual workshop.

Please join us on April 11, 2025, for Mending Made Easy. Kate will share her best tips on handknit repair—and ways to avoid holes in the first place. This will be a virtual workshop on Zoom. Click here for all the details and to reserve your place.

How’d We Do? The Bang Out Report

Yesterday was the final day of official play for Bang Out a Sweater, the knitalong in which we try like heck to knit an entire sweater during the shortest month of the year. How’d we do? Who knit an entire Bolin Cardigan? Who is still working at their own pace—and loving it?

If you’d like to join the fun, you can still sign up for the three-part workshop with legendary teacher Lorilee Beltman here. You’ll receive links to the video recordings of all three jam-packed sessions instantly—they’re included in your order confirmation email—to watch whenever you like. We’ll keep the workshop listing open this weekend, but we do have to close it down on Monday.

Meanwhile…

We had a big time on MDK this week.

You’re gonna want to weigh in on Samantha Brunson’s story of the Donna Karan sweater that missed the runway. 92 commenters—and counting!—had a lot to say.

Ahoy! Captain Jillian Moreno steered us around the pitfalls of those alluring yarn cones.

Ann and Kay are officially Het Up about Nash Yarn Fest—which is less than two weeks away, y’all!

You know things are getting real when there’s a map—and this is SOME MAP.

Plus: the chance to get our picture made by the nation’s leading photographer of happy people rocking their handknits.

It’s over when it’s over. Claudia B. Manley on the tangled process of breaking up with a work-in-progress.

Great Scot! It’s the Great Tapestry of Scotland

Your Support Is Everything—Thank You!

At MDK, making knitters happy is all we think about, every single day. If you love what we’re doing, it’s vital—and easy—to support MDK.

One great way, of course: join the MDK Society. And also, whenever you shop with MDK, sign up for a workshop, or share our content with others, you’re directly supporting the yarnmakers, artisans, teachers, and writers that we feature here. Thank you!

Questions? Email us anytime at hello@moderndailyknitting.com, and you’ll get a prompt response from a real live MDK person.

Stay healthy, take care of each other, and knit on.

Love,

Ann and Kay

PS Please forward this Snippets to a knitter friend—we appreciate it so much!

Nash Yarn Fest is Just Three Weeks Away!

Our excitement level is officially off the charts as we get ready to welcome over 90 vendors—and a throng of happy knitters—to Nashville for our first-ever Nash Yarn Fest on March 14-15, 2025. It’s not too late to get yourself a ticket now—and we’ll be selling them at the door, so come on down! Read all about this beautiful opportunity for good times with our beloved knitting community on the Nash Yarn Fest website.

In case you missed it, photographer Gale Zucker—who specializes in making real people look really fabulous in their handknits—will be bringing her professional photo booth setup to Nash Yarn Fest. Advance booking is highly recommended: reserve a spot for you, or you and your gang, here.

A Quiet Mind Awaits You

On March 28, at noon Eastern, we’ll be hosting a 90-minute knitting + meditation session with Suzan Colón. Suzan is a beloved MDK contributor and the author of Medknitation, a life-changing book about the ways to combine knitting and meditation.

When you sign up here, your order confirmation email will include a free download of the ebook edition of Medknitation, with 30 meditations.

As always with our virtual classes, this one will be recorded so you can watch and re-watch at your convenience.

Off to a Roaring Start

2025 is the year of a brand-new adventure: the MDK Society. The benefits of charter membership are many—and we will be adding more fun all year long.

Members save 10 percent on our wonderful virtual workshops, and in the MDK Shop, throughout 2025.

What we’re most excited about: virtual events and hangouts for Society members. Each month we’ll put on a new edition of the Snippets Show, featuring special guests and coming to you via Zoom, plus knit nights, the MDK Lounge, and more. This is the knitting community we’ve dreamed about.

Our first year is off to a great start, and we hope you’ll join us.

So far, our Snippets Show guests have been Arne and Carlos in January, and this past week: the one and only Franklin Habit, beaming in from his studio in Paris! The video recordings of our chats are available to all MDK Society members, indefinitely!

Big news: Our special guest at the next Snippets Show on March 5 will be the one and only Natalie Chanin. We’re so excited to catch up with her on all the big doings at Alabama ChaninThe School of Making, and Project Threadways.

Please take a moment to sign up now.
