Dear Knitter,

Welcome to your Saturday!

Time is short—preorders for the Scout Shawl Bundle are open through March 31, aka TOMORROW! Read all about it here. External Link. Opens in new window., and preorder your bundle here. External Link. Opens in new window..

MDK Rule No. 72: No project is too ambitious if you crave the result enough. This rule has inspired us to take on our most mind-expanding projects.

That’s Florence Spurling’s Scout Shawl up top. We crave, we crave! Such a mesmerizing combination of color, pattern, and construction.

We frankly wondered if other intrepid knitters would feel the way we feel about this project. Judging by early response, we’re not the only ones.

Patty Lyons!

For the first time, the Queen of Clever will be teaching a virtual class at MDK. Patty Lyons has more tricks up her sleeve than the Amazing Alakazam. We’re thrilled that she’s cooking up a special class just for us. Register here. External Link. Opens in new window. for this May 10 funfest.

Reader Joan Gavigan puts it best: “I have been to a couple of Patty’s classes at VK Live in NYC. She is a fabulous teacher. You get your money’s worth because she stays on target and gets through a lot of material. By the time you finish the class you REALLY have learned something. The cost of this class is a steal, truly a steal. I’m signing on as soon as I can:)”

Meanwhile…

We had a big time on MDK this week.

Patchwork for Spring

The Scout Shawl. External Link. Opens in new window. is a cool idea, elegantly executed—and we haven’t been able to get it out of our minds. Florence Spurling combined two colorwork techniques: intarsia and stranded knitting, for a skill workout that’s exhilarating yet manageable in scope.

Reminiscent of quilts, stitch samplers, vintage rugs, and boho needlepoint cushions, the Scout Shawl is an opportunity for you to be a total showoff.

We’ve got a bundle for that! To create the Scout Shawl Bundle. External Link. Opens in new window., we asked the artisan hand dyers at Madeline Tosh to recreate the palette of lush Tosh Merino Light shades that Florence Spurling chose for her photography sample for Scout Mini Shawl. The bundle has enough yardage to knit either the Scout Mini Shawl or its sumptuous big sister, the Scout Shawl.
