Dear knitter,
Welcome to your Saturday!
It’s a red-letter day at MDK World Headquarters. Yesterday, with all the joy in the world, we launched MDK Field Guide No. 25: Botanica, with six projects by renowned artist Dee Hardwicke.
Read all about it here. And scroll down for more photos, plus the details about the six beautiful bundles we’ve put together for this Field Guide.

And—of course—there’s a lookbook! Dive into this shoppable tour of Field Guide No. 25: Botanica, made especially for you by MDK’s own Hannah Jones. Click on the picture below:
We’ve been waiting a long time to get Dee’s distinctive, modern colorwork on our needles, and now there’s no holding us back. There’s an epic knitalong coming soon—but first, let’s celebrate!
An Exclusive Virtual Workshop
Dee works her design magic using simple motifs and artful color combinations. It is the best sort of fun, and a perfect place to begin your colorwork journey.
To lead us, we turn to the teacher who taught us so beautifully at MDK Summer Camp, Lorilee Beltman. The feedback from our campers was clear: you love Lorilee! One of the knitting world’s most beloved and sought-after teachers, Lorilee has cooked up a brand-new virtual class for both newcomers and old hands at color.
Please join us on Friday, October 13, from noon–3:00 p.m. Eastern time, for a virtual workshop. In a three-hour session on Zoom, we’ll dive into stranded colorwork knitting. The project? Dee’s engaging, endearing Treeline Cowl. As always with MDK workshops, the kit will be deluxe, a treat in itself. Register here by October 2 to ensure your kit arrives in time for the virtual workshop!
Meanwhile . . .
We had a big time on MDK this week.
Well, this is timely: Kate Atherley’s top tips for setting yourself up for success at the start of a new project.
Physical therapist Carson Demers teaches simple stretches that will help your knitting go the distance—comfortably.
O, how we sparkled: a review of the glorious knits of Field Guide No. 24: Spark.
If your weekend includes a trip to the farmstand, you’ll be ready for a quick, savory supper: the latest entry from Sarah Ross’s recipe file.
One crochets, the other knits—and they’ve both released new music that DG loves.
Remember to enter this week’s giveaway by midnight Central time Sunday night. The prize? A Summery Sock Kit! It’s a deluxe bundle of two all-time favorite sock yarns, plus MDK Field Guide No. 11: Wanderlust, plus favorite sockmaker essentials. For a limited time, you can get one for yourself at a very special price.
As ever, we thank you for supporting this beloved, handcrafted enterprise. Every morning, we bring the best in knitting to you, fresh and hot.
We share it for free, but good content is expensive. We urge you to support what you love, and have a great shopping experience while you’re at it. Thank you for keeping us going!
Questions? Email us anytime at hello@moderndailyknitting.com, and you’ll get a prompt personal response from a real live MDK person.
Stay healthy, take care of each other, and knit on.

Botanical has been on my iPad since the day I received it. I was so excited when the hard copy came. I need to take the time to use the code and put it on Ravelry. I read and dream and scheme and plan and even do some mental knitting. My queue get larger with each field guide. I must say 25 provides lots of inspiration. You should see the riffs on some of the patterns for charity and gift knitting. Please keep up the wonderful Field Guides and I will keep subscribing. On to the next project.
I would love to attend the launch meeting for the newest field guide! Likewise with the virtual stranded colorwork knitting workshop. Unfortunately, they both fall in the middle of my work day. Are there any plans for recording either of them? I would be happy to be able to get (and pay for) even recorded content of the colorwork workshop.
Hi, Miriam. Monday’s Zoom-based FG 25 launch party will be recorded; check your Snippets email this coming Saturday (9/23) for the link.
The virtual Treeline Cowl class with Lorilee Beltman will also be recorded. Access to that recording will be available afterwards to everyone who bought the Treeline Cowl Virtual Workshop bundle/class via the site. So you can also participate in that one at your leisure (the link is usually ready two or three days after the Zoom session) – but you do have to grab a bundle to get that link.
