You’ve Got Snippets: September 7, 2024
Dear Knitter,
Happy Saturday!
We’re thrilled to be building up our schedule of extraordinary virtual workshops, and equally thrilled by the wonderful feedback from knitters who’ve taken part.
The next great one is coming up soon. On October 11, learn intarsia with one of its great teachers, designer Florence Spurling. This virtual workshop features the beautifully manageable motifs of Florence’s stunning Elvan Shawl.
We’re offering a gorgeous kit, or you can opt to bring your own yarn and take the class by itself. Read all about it and sign up here.
Psst—Our summer sale is still going, with some choice bargains remaining. Head on over to our sale page, where you’ll find reductions up to 50 percent on things we love.
Meanwhile …
We had a big time on MDK this week.
You know how it is when you’ve found something really fun and you want everybody to have the same fun? That’s how we feel about Natalie Chanin and The School of Making—and it’s how we got all these beautiful skirts.
From Kate Atherley, one clever trick that will change your relationship with grafting.
Taking a break from her Ask Patty mailbox, Patty Lyons took us with her to Norway. Sure hope she found a yarn shop or two!
To go in a more southerly direction, tag along with Paul Haesemeyer to Porto.
The feeling when you forget a knitting technique that you made a how-to video about: Kay learns how to mattress stitch on garter stitch—again.
Did you get to come to our welcome party for Jane? Grab your knitting and a beverage, settle in with the video recording, and find out why we’re so excited for the patterns we’re going to knit with this new yarn.
Your Support Is Everything—Thank You!
At MDK, supporting and elevating the knitting life is all we think about, every single day. It’s vital—and easy—to support MDK!
When you shop with MDK, take a workshop, and share our content with your knitting friends, you’re also supporting the yarnmakers, artisans, teachers, and writers that we feature here. It’s a daily challenge to make our tiny business go, and we’re grateful to everyone who helps us do that. Thank you!
Questions? Email us anytime at hello@moderndailyknitting.com, and you’ll get a prompt personal response from a real live MDK person.
Stay healthy, take care of each other, and knit on.
Love,
Ann and Kay
PS Please forward this Snippets to a knitter friend—we appreciate it so much!
Jane is Here!
Who’s Jane? She’s our brand-new, MDK exclusive, DK-weight yarn.
One hundred percent British wool, made in Yorkshire.
To see Jane knitted up into 15 of the most beautiful patterns out there, take a leisurely stroll through our fabulous Jane lookbook. It’s the ultimate Pattern Scout!
Learn Intarsia
Please join us on October 11 for this exciting workshop with Florence Spurling. Intarsia is one of the most creative knitting techniques—it’s like painting with yarn. Her Elvan Shawl is perfect for learning the technique—and we have an optional yarn kit too. Sign up for our exciting virtual workshop, right here!
Meet Our Teacher
Florence Spurling is that amazing combination of designer and teacher.
Originally from Oxfordshire, England, she trained in London where she received a Masters in Textile Design from The Royal College of Art. Florence is passionate about creating unique, tactile, and desirable fabrics that display her love of detail and craftsmanship.
A Win-Win for MDK—and your Knitting!
We hear from knitters who read Snippets every Saturday—in their PJs! Putting together Snippets (sometimes in PJs ourselves) is our favorite weekly project—for ten years now. We never take your readership for granted, and we never clutter up the posts you love with ads.
That’s extraordinary in this overstimulated age.
We need your help to keep MDK free of charge, and free of ads. One of the best ways to show support is collecting the MDK Field Guides. Check out this nifty way to build your own bundle of these little books at a very nice savings.
