Cindy Dawson
Cindy Dawson is a scholar and writer, and she currently teaches courses in religion at the University of Houston. Although her mother taught her to knit over 30 years ago, she began knitting in earnest while writing her dissertation in 2021: it was a low-tech break from intense writing schedules and a way to “get out of her head and into her body.” The dissertation became her first book, Woman Zion, Out of Hand (Oxford University Press, forthcoming), and she hasn’t stopped knitting since.
Cindy’s current interests blend her fascination with religious practices with the many phases of yarnwork. She and her husband live in Houston, where they raised two excellent sons and now dote on their sweet pittie, Willow.
