The balaclava, but Erika Knight’s way: timeless and chic. The Knight Hood is a raffish cowl that you can hike up for an instant head cover.
Materials
Atlas by Modern Daily Knitting [2 oz (57 g) skeins, each approx 145 yds (132.5 m), 100% Rambouillet wool]:
Two-Color Version: 2 skeins each Truffle (A) and Cedar (B)
One-Color Version: 4 skeins Seaglass
Size US 8 (5 mm) circular needle, 16″ (40 cm) and 24″ (60 cm), or size needed to achieve gauge
Size US 7 (4.5 mm) circular needle, 24″ (60 cm) long

Back Length to Shoulder: 9.75″ (25 cm)
Shoulder Width: 13.75″ (35 cm)
Gauge
18 sts and 24 rows = 4″ (10 cm) st st, using larger needle, after blocking
Notes
Back and front are worked separately, then joined together using a 3-needle bind-off. Stitches are picked up around the neck opening, and the hood is worked in the round for several rounds before dividing for the opening. The hood is worked back and forth in rows to the shaped top, and the halves of the hood are joined using a 3-needle bind-off. Finally a ribbed edging is worked in the round for the hood opening.
