It has long been a dream of ours to create a yarn for knitters, by knitters. After a lot of experimenting and thinking and gazing at a giant book of color chips, here it is.
This is Atlas.
Soft. The fiber here is 100% Rambouillet, a cousin to Merino with a bit more bounce.
Lofty. The light worsted weight, worsted spun, with three plies, makes the sort of fabric that we really love.
Colorful. We arrived at a palette of 22 colors. You’ll see brights and quiets, each color the result of a whole lot of thought. This range allows for all sorts of knitting: textures, cables, colorwork.
Versatile. Atlas can be knitted at a number of needle sizes, from US size 6 to 8 (4-6 mm).
Made in the United States. It has been a challenge to produce this yarn during a pandemic, and we appreciate the hard work of the folks who worked to create Atlas—from the family in northern California who raise the Rambouillet sheep, to the spinning mill team in South Carolina and the dyers in North Carolina.
Climate Beneficial Wool. Atlas is made with wool that comes from sheep who are grazing on landscapes where carbon-capturing processes are being enhanced. It is fascinating to learn how this works; here’s a short video. External Link. The wool that made Atlas comes from a ranch that is working to repair the carbon imbalance in our climate.
Most of all, we hope you enjoy knitting with Atlas. This is a yarn you will reach for with confidence, knowing that it will elevate any project you make with it.
